RANGERS BEAT COASTAL BEND | Byrd gets first Region XIV win as KC coach, vs. former team
Kilgore College head basketball coach Robert Byrd is in his first season guiding the Rangers. He’s also the former coach at one of KC’s Region XIV Conference rivals, Coastal Bend.
The Rangers, looking for their first conference win, hit the road Wednesday night to – you guessed it – Coastal Bend in Beeville, and got the win they needed, 76-68.
KC is now 9-4 overall, and 1-2 in conference play.
As soon as ETBlitz.com has statistics for this game, they’ll be posted in this story.
Both KC teams are coming up on that hard Christmas / holiday break. Coach Byrd and the Rangers have one more game: they’ll step out of conference to host Southern-Shreveport on Saturday at noon, here at Masters Gymnasium, and then the Rangers won’t be back on any court until January 6, when they return here to Masters to host Victoria.
The Lady Rangers, coached by Stephanie Williams, were to host Western Gulf on Saturday, but that game has been canceled. So KC’s women’s basketball team will instead be off until Thursday, when they’ll play at Midland College at 5 p.m., and then the Lady Rangers are playing in a Christmas Classic tournament in Liberal, Kan. They’ll play Otero College at 2 p.m. Saturday, and against Seward County Community College on Sunday at 4.
And that’s the Lady Rangers’ final action before the holidays, as well. They won’t be back until their own mini-tournament that begins on New Year’s Day, fittingly called the Evelyn Blalock Classic. KC faces University of Arkansas-Cossatot on Jan. 1 at 5, then McLennan Community College on Jan. 2 at 3.
