PARIS DEALS KHS A LOSS | ‘Dogs continue in MP tourney

The winning streak was stopped at four, unfortunately, for the Kilgore High School baseball team, who lost their opening-round game Thursday in the Tiger Classic Tournament in Mount Pleasant to Paris, 11-3.

The Diamond ‘Dogs won the most important game of the last few days, though, getting a win in their District 17-4A opener on Wednesday (as covered yesterday on ETBlitz.com; BULLDOGS BEAT SCRAPPY CENTER | Kilgore wins district debut on the road, 2-1 (etblitz.com); more below). But they’ll continue in the Tiger Classic on Friday with a pair of morning games: vs. Hooks at 9 a.m. Friday morning, then at 11:30 a.m. against Harmony. On Saturday, the Bulldogs will play Sulphur Springs at 4:30.

The tournament games have an hour, 50-minute time limit.

Kilgore had five hits in the loss to Paris on Thursday: Todd House had two of them, both singles, and scored a run. Colt Bullard and Cade Cox were each 1-of-2: Bullard’s hit was a home run, and Cox’s hit was a triple. Salvador Cervantes had the other, a single. And Bullard drew the only walk of the game.

Cason Edney, Cervantes and Tate Truman all pitched for Kilgore. Edney threw two innings, facing 14 batters. He allowed six runs, three earned, on five hits, walked two and struck out one. Cervantes went 1 2/3 innings, giving up no runs or hits, walking one and striking out two, having faced six batters. And Truman faced eight batters, allowing five runs on two hits, and walked five. It wasn’t the best day, but there’ll be others.

Kilgore is 7-3-1 on the season prior to the two games Friday, back in the Mount Pleasant Tourney.

The ‘Dogs are on spring break next week, but still play in district. They’ll host Gilmer on Tuesday night at Driller Park, a 7 p.m. first-pitch, and then play at Henderson on Friday, also at 7 p.m., unless changes are made.
