OVERTON WINS GAME 1! | Still has an inside-the-park homer, Overton takes series lead – Game two happening now
Overton scored three runs in the third inning, added a run each in the fourth and fifth, got an inside-the-park home run from speedy Bryce Still, and some good pitching, and shook it all up for the perfect recipe to win game one of the playoff series with Beckville.
Game two under way now at Longview High School – see it streamed live, for a subscription fee, on www.NFHSNetwork.com. Search “Overton (Texas)” and the option to see Overton-Beckville baseball will come up. At this writing, in the top of the first, Beckville leads, 1-0.
Overton had 11 hits in the game, including Still’s round-tripper – and we mean, round-tripper; Still ran the bases with blurring speed and didn’t slow up – in the fifth inning to give the Mustangs a 5-1 lead at the time.
Beckville (23-7) plated a few runs on bases-loaded walks, but committed six errors, some leading to late-in-the-game insurance runs for the Mustangs (28-7).
If Overton wins this game two, the series is done, and Overton advances to the UIL Class 2A, Division II state semifinals. If Beckville wins, then Overton and Beckville will meet in game three on Friday, back at Longview High, at 5 p.m.
