WINNSBORO – Overton led 18th-ranked Frankston here on Thursday by four runs, but that lead turned in Frankston’s favor, and unfortunately for the Mustangs and their fans, so did the game, 8-7.

The Mustangs get another shot, though, as it’s a best-of-three-game series. Overton and Frankston meet again here Friday night for game two, a 7:30 p.m. start. If a game three is needed, then they’ll see each other Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m., right back here in Winnsboro.

Frankston was the first to get on the scoreboard in game one, in the top of the first inning when the Indians plated a run on an error.

Then, in the bottom of the first, the Mustangs went into the lead after Ryan Holleman doubled, and pinch runner Kash Holleman scored on a passed ball. After one, the Mustangs led 2-1.

Overton added to their lead in the third when Joey Zalman drew a walk, and came around to score. Isaiah Hawkins hit a sacrifice fly to drive in another. The Mustangs scored three to go up 5-1.

Frankston tied the game in the top of the sixth inning thanks to a double by Conlan LeMay, a single by Tucker Plamer, and a single by Ryan Harper.

In the top of the seventh, the Indians singled, Palmer was hit by a pitch, and Bradley Gould walked, each scoring a run. Frankston took an 8-5 lead into the bottom of the inning.

The Mustangs got it close in the bottom of the seventh, scoring twice, but couldn’t quite get the comeback finished. They left the tying run stranded on first base as the game ended.

Holleman started on the hill for the Mustangs. He allowed six hits and five runs (four earned) over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked three.

The Mustangs had three errors in the game.
