The Overton High School Mustangs baseball program is going to Dell Diamond this week to play for a state championship for the very first time in program history.
Are you like me – did you call it before we ever got to this point? Because I did. More on that below.

Here at ETBlitz.com, we don’t print a paper. This is 2025. We may actually print a full-color magazine at the end of the year, but day-to-day, it’s a digital world, and we’re all living in it. But we also know people love to show their appreciation for others, and I can’t be the only one who’d like to tell these guys good luck, get it done, bring it home.
So my thinking was, why not dedicate a page on ETBlitz to do it?
And that’s what this is. If anyone would like to place their own personal thoughts here of Overton High School baseball players or coaches, kind of a well-wisher’s note, or a favorite memory from the season, a motivational note – and include a photo or two (probably keep it to two) – we’ll leave this page up through Thursday, so the guys and the coaches can see these and maybe, just maybe, help fire ‘em up to go knock off Collinsville Thursday morning at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
If you want to take part, email your message and photos to mlucas@etblitz.com.
I’ll get the ball rolling.
From the beginning of this school year – actually, from the beginning of their sophomore year, if you just want to get technical – I’ve been telling EVERYBODY THAT WOULD LISTEN that this Overton senior class was special.

I’ve known it for three seasons. I’ve known they were going to do things that would leave their mark on Overton athletics, and they’ve more than done that. Ask Mart’s football program, among others.
But we’re stepping out of just school best-of’s now. This is history. And in all honesty, they’ve already done that: the 2025 Class 2A, Division II state finalists are Overton and Collinsville, and no one will ever be able to take that away from them.
The Overton seniors, and I hope I’ve included everyone here, are, in alphabetical order: Bryson Bobbitt, Jayden Edwards, Braxton Harper, Mason Rowe, Bryce Still, and Joey Zalman. And years from now, we are all going to point back to this season. “Hey, do you remember…”
And it’s not just the seniors, not even close, that make this team special. This is a TEAM. Juniors are Brody Brown, Sterling Galvan, Landon Hill, and Rylan Holleman. Sophomores Gabe Miller and Jacob Osburn, and freshman Nolan Hill round out the group, with manager Nic Santana and coached by Chris Cook and Scotty Laymance, a gentleman I’ve grown to call my friend.
This is Overton’s third appearance at the UIL State Baseball Championships, otherwise known as the state tournament. They’re 31-8, and if that first number changes to “32,” they’ll hoist a trophy on Thursday, right around noon.
I’d like to thank coach Cook and Scotty, and all the players, for taking us on this ride, and I appreciate all the fans for reading ETBlitz.com. Go, Mustangs.
