OVERTON MOVES ON | Baseball playoffs over, sadly, for Tatum & Henderson; more coming

The playoff road continues for the Overton High School Mustangs, somewhat fittingly in the best year of Overton athletics in decades.
Overton beat James Bowie, 5-0, on Friday in game two of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 2A, Division I playoffs, earning a sweep. The Mustangs (25-6) have won 11 straight, and they’ll face Gary (18-10) in round three this coming week.
When that playoff series gets set, we’ll let you know here on ETBlitz.com.

Unfortunately, our other two playoff teams from the ETB coverage area – Henderson in the 4A-DI playoffs and Tatum in the 3A-DI playoffs – both lost their second games on Friday, ending the 2025 season for both.
Overton 5, Bowie 0: Coach Christopher Cook’s Mustangs just took it right to Bowie, outscoring the Pirates 16-1 in two games in the best-of-three series.
Game one on Thursday night was in Bullard, and game two on Friday was in Atlanta.
Overton made sure there wouldn’t be a game three to worry about.
The Mustangs held Bowie to just two hits on Friday, and Bowie helped, contributing five walks and three errors to the Overton win cause. The Mustangs rolled up four runs in the second inning, and scored once more in the seventh for good measure.

And Overton did all this damage with three hits, and just one of them an extra base hit. Mason Rowe had a single and scored twice; Joey Zalman had a single and scored once; and Jayden Edwards had a double, 2 RBI and scored a run.
Overton had six stolen bases: Edwards had two and Rowe, Zalman, Brody Brown, and Bryson Bobbitt each had one.
Landon Hill got the win, going six innings on the mound and giving up just two hits to Bowie. He walked three and struck out four, facing 23 batters. Bryce Still came on for an inning, and walked one, but allowed no hits or runs.
Overton and Gary didn’t meet in the regular season.
Gary swept Lovelady in round two, winning game one, 3-2, and taking an 8-5 win in game two. The Bobcats overcame three errors to win game one, but held Lovelady to just one hit. In game two, Gary had three more errors, and seven hits, but still got the win.
We’ll have more on the Overton-Gary series as soon as it’s scheduled, and more on the Henderson and Tatum series shortly.
