OVERTON BOYS FIFTH | Miss state tourney, but not by much

Overton High School’s boys golf team played in the University Interscholastic League Class 2A Region III Golf Tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Cherokee Ranch Golf Club in Jacksonville, hoping to earn a trip to the 2A State Golf Tournament in Austin April 29-30.

And the Mustangs gave a good account for themselves, but wound up with a fifth-place finish, missing out on the state tournament trip by 10 strokes, according to the Overton High School athletic Facebook page, Overton Mustang Athletics.

Overton’s boys, coached by Lance Holleman, are Brody Brown, Kason Hawkins, Rylan Holleman, Landon Hill and Bryce Still.

And Overton isn’t finished. The girls golf team was to play in regionals today and on Thursday, again at Cherokee Ranch, with a goal of reaching the state tourney at Lions Municipal Golf Course on May 6-7.

Overton’s girls golfers playing in the tournament are Bostyn Brown, Ashby Croswell, Siann Levoy and Anna Perkins.
