SOCCER

Kilgore at Midlothian for scrimmages;

Sabine scrimmages Tuesday, Wednesday

Both Kilgore High School soccer programs are at Midlothian today for preseason scrimmages. Junior varsity games will be played at Midlothian ISD’s multipurpose stadium at 1400 S. 14 th Street in Midlothian, and varsity games will be played at the Midlothian High Roesler Complex at 923 S. Ninth Street.

Coach Todd BonDurant’s Lady Bulldogs girls varsity will play at 4:30 at the varsity site, followed by coach Hector Peralez and the boys varsity. The girls and boys JV will also begin at 4:30 at the JV site.

Looking ahead, the Lady ‘Dogs play at Frisco Wakeland on Wednesday, (JV at 4:30 and varsity at 6), and are off until after the Christmas holidays. They’re back Dec. 29 for a road game at Tyler Legacy, and then it’s the annual Kilgore Tournament here at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium on Jan. 4-6.

For the Bulldogs, the alumni game is Wednesday at R.E. St. John on Wednesday night at 6, and then some time off until the season officially opens Jan. 4 with the Pine Tree Tournament at Pirate Stadium in Longview.

The Sabine boys will scrimmage at 5:30 p.m. Monday at home against Mineola, and the Sabine girls will be on the road Tuesday for a scrimmage at Lindale at 4 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL

Kilgore’s Williams first-team all-district

Kilgore’s Aderria Williams was named first-team all-district as part of the District 17-4A All-District team, as voted on by the district’s coaches (also including Henderson, Gilmer, Spring Hill, Chapel Hill, and Carthage).

Lady Bulldogs on the second team were Reese Burgess, Phenix Rivers and Maurine Witt, and on the honorable mention list: Maddison Harris, Kylie Herrin, Elle Litchenburg, Katie Smires, Makayla Smith, and Giselle Webster.

Kilgore players that earned academic all-district honors were Reese Burgess, Phenix Rivers and Makayla Smith.

Superlative awards from the all-district team: Spring Hill’s Andrew Harbison named coach of the year; Spring Hill’s Savannah Irwin taking top setter, and two teammates also winning awards: Abby Fisher taking home defensive most valuable player and Tyhia Mack winning best setter.

Gilmer’s Lacey Wilson was named top hitter; Carthage’s Sanaa Allison was named top blocker; and Chapel Hill’s Aryssa Cooper and Carthage’s Dawson Delaney were named co-newcomers of the year.

YOUTH BASKETBALL

KHS mini-camp Jan. 13

There will be a basketball mini-camp for boys and girls in grades kindergarten through eighth grade on Jan. 13, at Kilgore High School from 9 a.m. until noon.

The cost is $25 per child, then $20 for each additional child from the same household.
