KILGORE’S BROOKS, GRAVES IN SPOTLIGHT | Dave Campbell’s names duo state’s top 4A QB/WR combo!

Kilgore receiver Lakeyleon Graves (4) breaks free against Chapel Hill after making a catch from his quarterback, Kayson Brooks. An article on Dave Campbell’s Texas Football website on Tuesday names Brooks and Graves as THE top quarterback-receiver combination in UIL Class 4A in the state! I’m not here, normally, to sell another publication.

But if you want to subscribe to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, today would be the day to do so, and we here at ETBlitz.com wouldn’t blame you.

There’s an article in DCTF today by Carter Yates – THROW IT UP: 2025’s Top QB-WR Duos in 4A and 3A – and mentioned in the subhead (the subheadline, which is to say the smaller headline) is none other than Kilgore quarterback Kayson Brooks and receiver Lakeyleon Graves.

Yates mentions that on Monday, DCTF went over the top quarterback-wide receiver connections in the 6A and 5A classifications, and that today, it’s time for the 4A and 3A treatment.

But now, you have to be a subscriber to read this. I am – DCTF is absolutely worth the subscription fee that I pay.

That said, you don’t have to worry about subscribing to ETBlitz.com, because we HAVE no subscription fee, and we also don’t have a paywall. It’s free for you to read all night, all day, ‘till your little heart is content.

Back to the story.

Yates goes on to name his top five quarterback-receiver combos in 4A, and I won’t list them, because that would ruin his article for you, in the event you subscribe.

But the NUMBER ONE combination in the whole STATE in 4A, Yates writes, is none other than the Kilgore Bulldogs’ 1-2 punch of Brooks and Graves.

“Brooks proved a quick study in his first year as a starter,” Yates writes, “throwing for 3,673 yards and 43 touchdowns, and setting multiple school records.”

Brooks, by the way, was named one of the top returning starters at quarterback in the state by DCTF back on May 15, along with Southlake Carroll’s Angelo Renda, Highland Park’s Buck Randall, Wall’s Landon York, Walnut Grove’s Hayes Hackney, Jacksboro’s Wyatt Gavit, Fairfield’s Kohl Collins, Reid Macon of West Plains (Canyon), Collinsville’s Jaxon Jenkins, and Edgewood’s Trevor Golightly.

Kilgore’s Brooks threw for more yards than all but three of those on that list. Only Renda, Randall and York threw for more than Brooks’ 3,673.

On Graves: “Graves is arguably Kilgore’s best player on both sides of the ball. …The 6-2, 190-pound athlete holds 14 offers from schools such as Houston and Missouri.”

Yates says more, high praise for both, but again, in the interest of fairness, it’s a subscription service and I can’t give that content, their content, away for free.

There is one other East Texas connection mentioned in the article, although they’re not a program in the ETBlitz.com coverage area, and that’s Winnsboro quarterback Nolee Carroll and wideout Camden Capehart.

By the way, DCTF is also very involved in the Texas State 7-on-7 Tournament, coming up at Veterans Park in College Station on June 26-28, and a Kilgore team (featuring Brooks and Graves) will compete in it.
