KILGORE SOCCER SWEEPS TATUM | Reyes nets three for ‘Dogs
Kilgore soccer is rolling, stomping, rumbling, blitzing – however you want to say it, both Kilgore High School teams are having another big regular season, even through District 15-4A.
Both KHS teams got wins on the road at Tatum on Monday, games that had originally been planned to be played at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium in Kilgore, but since Tatum had to swap its initial home date, these games were played at THS.
It didn’t help the Eagles, though, or the Lady Eagles, as both Kilgore teams won big: the girls, 10-0, and the boys, 7-0.
The junior varsity boys will play at Palestine on Friday, but Kilgore’s varsity teams will both take the rest of the week off, though, with open dates on Friday. They’ll be back in action next week: Kilgore’s boys will visit Center on Monday, a 5 p.m. junior varsity start, varsity to follow, and the Lady Bulldogs will host Center, beginning with JV at 5.
We didn’t have a lot of information on the girls’ 10-0 win over Tatum at press time for this story, but there is a report from the boys, courtesy of coach Hector Peralez.
Adan Reyes scored 15 seconds after the game started on an assist by Jerson Avelar Flores, and Jordy Velasquez doubled Kilgore’s lead to 2-0 by a rebound off the goalkeeper. Christian Cedillo scored off an assist by Gustavo Trejo (3-0 Kilgore), and Jacob Contreras would score a solo goal, unassisted (4-0).
Javier Baide crossed the ball for a header by Adan Reyes (5-0) for Reyes’ second goal of the game, and then…
“Chris Perez scored an impressive ‘Olimpico,’” Peralez explained, “which is when a player scores directly from a corner kick without contact by another player.”
Reyes would get one more – the hat trick for him, three goals – when Joseph Chavez crossed it in to him.
