Kilgore had a couple of interceptions on defense and allowed a touchdown pass in the controlled portion of its scrimmage Friday at home, at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium, against Mesquite Poteet.

But once the live scrimmage started, like actual football, it was Poteet, Forget It.

The visitors from the East could do little against Kilgore’s vaunted defense, and Kilgore outscored Poteet, 21-0, in the live portion.

Kilgore, which went 12-2 a year ago and four rounds deep into the UIL Class 4A, Division I playoffs, will have one additional preseason scrimmage, as usual: that’s Thursday at Center.

The next stop after that is the regular season, and the opener at Carthage on Friday night, August 30, a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

In other scrimmage results from programs in the ETBlitz area, Gilmer won its scrimmage in Paris in the live quarter, 6-0, a low-scoring scrimmage.

New Diana outscored White Oak, four touchdowns to one, in the live portion of the scrimmage between those two programs.

Overton outscored Union Grove 3-1 in the live portion of their scrimmage.

Bryce Still and Jayden Edwards connected on a 7-yard touchdown pass, and Still also threw what turned into a 50-yard touchdown to Bryson Bobbitt. Hunter Klima scored on a touchdown run of just over 60 yards. And the Mustangs’ defense held UG to the one score.

We’ll update other scrimmages here as results come in.
