KHS CHEER TAKES TROPHY AT SFA! | Kilgore cheer wins championship, preps for state
Kilgore High School’s cheerleaders had an amazing weekend at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, getting ready for state cheer competition in January.
What better way to get ready for state than to own the competition before it?
That’s what they did in Nac at the 2023 SFA Game Day Cheer Competition last weekend, at the Lucille Norton HPE Complex.
Kilgore competed in the 4A division against Lufkin Hudson, Van, Canton and Carthage, and swept, taking first place across the board: first place in 4A band chant, first place in 4A crowd leading, first in 4A fight song, and first in game day finals.
In addition, there were individual awards.
Zoey Johnson, just a sophomore, took first for best cheer, and Brittany Yzaguirre, also just a sophomore, took first for best crowd leader.
Cheer coaches for KHS are Dee Minor and Saidie Hamblen.
The girls are gearing up for University Interscholastic League state competition on Jan. 4-6 at the Fort Worth Convention Center (Spirit — University Interscholastic League (UIL) ).
ETBlitz.com plans to cover cheer and drill teams, and high school bands, from all of our area coverage schools: Kilgore, Henderson, Sabine, Gladewater, Tatum, West Rusk, Troup, Arp, White Oak, Overton, and Leverett’s Chapel.
