HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP | Sabine, White Oak girls win tight ones; Tatum girls just mashing folks

Girls basketball teams at Sabine and White Oak both won important District 15-3A games on Friday, with the Ladynecks edging Hughes Springs, and Sabine’s Lady Cardinals getting out of Daingerfield with the win.

State-ranked Tatum just continues to roll, steamrolling district rival Waskom.

Kilgore’s Lady Bulldogs, backs against the wall with an 0-4 district mark, were off on Friday – the district bye. They’ll play at Carthage on Tuesday.

In boys games, Jefferson topped West Rusk; the Tyler H.E.A.T. (Home Educated Athletic Team) beat White Oak, 69-32; Kilgore had a bye; and Henderson dropped to 0-2 with a 69-3-56 home loss to Carthage.

Sabine 38, Daingerfield 31: Coach Sara Cantrell’s Lady Cardinals won by a touchdown, so to speak, to claim their District 16-3A opener with 10 points from Bailey Pierce and another 10 from her sister, Maddy Pierce.

Autumn Rhodes dropped in six; Kylee Longhofer had four; Caitlyn Stewart had three, as did Kaitlynn Sanchez, and Sarah Roberts had two.

Sabine is home on Tuesday night against Hughes Springs, starting at 5 p.m. with junior varsity.

The Ladynecks host Gladewater on Tuesday, starting with JV at 5 p.m.

Jefferson 61, West Rusk 44: The Lady Raiders, playing at home, ran into a buzzsaw against the Lady Bulldogs, and they’ll have to be careful – they play at Tatum next.

Tatum 70, Waskom 34: And speaking of Tatum, no one really wants to mess with the Lady Eagles right now, as they ran their overall record to 19-1 and their record in 16-3A to 4-0 with this big road win at Waskom.

Kamdyn Scott had 23 points to lead all scorers in this one, with the Lady Eagles getting 15 points from Aundrea Bradley, 12 from Kaleigh Hooker and seven from Jade Moore-Simon.

Tyler H.E.A.T. 69, White Oak 32: Scotty Breitenberg had 13 points for White Oak and Henry Lattin added 10, but the Roughnecks couldn’t score in the second half and dropped this non-district game at home to the H.E.A.T.

Also for White Oak, Kanaan Moore scored six.

White Oak hosts Joaquin on Tuesday night, beginning at 5 p.m. with subvarsity games.
