HIGH NOTE OF THE WEEK | Kilgore, Carthage tear the house down in state-ranked battle / Presented by KILGORE MERCANTILE & MUSIC

Two of the best high school football programs in the state of Texas met last Friday night at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium, and it was obvious.
It was obvious before the game even began. The buzz had been in the air in two communities for not just days, or weeks, but months.
A huge crowd on both sides of the stadium, streaming broadcasts across the web, Media from across the state gathered to see not just high school athletes but many of them future college athletes determine who would get to week two undefeated.
It was an electric atmosphere, one almost fitting for the playoffs.
THIS is what the Kilgore Mercantile & Music High Note of the Week is about.
And the High Note of the Week – the moment of the week in the ETBlitz.com coverage area – goes to the Kilgore-Carthage football game last Friday.

Each week, ETBlitz.com will single out a moment, a special moment, from the previous week, one that stood out above the rest, and it could be anything: a win, an athletic performance, a contest-winning effort by a high school band, someone being recognized four outstanding achievements, or this, in this case, almost a remember-where-you-were moment.
Kilgore, who reached the state championship game in UIL Class 4A, Division I last year after beating Carthage in the season opener, held on to the lead for much of the game, until the final moments of the third quarter, when Carthage went in front, 14-10.
Carthage would add a fourth-quarter touchdown, and in spite of Kilgore’s efforts, KHS couldn’t convert on fourth down deep in Carthage territory with about 2 ½ minutes left. Carthage, the defending 4A-Division II state champion, was able to run out the clock.
We at ETBlitz.com were anticipating this would be, in fact, the High Note of the Week, the thing so many people would be talking about leading into the game, and coming out of it.
But sometimes, you just don’t know. And that’s why we, along with Kilgore Mercantile & Music owners Fred & Vivian Gebhardt, created the High Note of the Week.
