FRIDAY IS DEMARVION OVERSHOWN DAY IN ARP | Hometown of Cowboys linebacker to be honored
Arp ISD and the Arp community want native son DeMarvion Overshown to know they love and support him.
In Arp on Friday, they’ll celebrate the former Arp High School standout – now a linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys – as “DeMarvion Overshown Day.” The city has also officially dedicated the day as such.
Students and faculty plan to wear blue and white, the Cowboys’ colors, to school on Friday, and ask anyone there to join them, especially inviting fans and friends to wear the Dallas Cowboys’ jerseys, whether they’re Overshown jerseys or not.
Overshown probably needs the feel-good gesture right now, after tearing ligaments in his right knee last week; it’s the second time Overshown’s season has ended due to a knee injury (previously, it was his left knee).
“Please join Arp ISD in showing support for our Arp Tiger alum Friday as he prepares to have season ending knee surgery soon,” said Mike Alzamora, the public information director for AISD.”
Overshown (6-foot-2, 220 pounds), drafted out of the University of Texas with the 90th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has 56 solo tackles this season – that’s tied for 30th overall in the league this season – as well as five sacks, a forced fumble and an interception.
Overshown is scheduled to have season-ending surgery on that right knee.
Before his arrival in Austin to play for the Longhorns, Overshown was practically unstoppable as an Arp Tiger before his 2018 graduation. In his senior season alone, in 2017, Overshown had 142 tackles, five sacks, five interceptions, 14 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, two recoveries and 13 pass break-ups.
He was all-everything: the defensive most valuable player in the all-district team, a part of the Associated Press’ all-state first team, a first-team member on the Blue Bell / Texas Sportswriters Association, and on the All-USA Texas team, the first team, published by USA Today.
