EDITOR’S NOTE: Below are high school basketball and soccer scores from Friday night, schedule for upcoming games in both sports, and the UIL girls basketball playoff schedule where it applies to teams in the ETBlitz.com coverage area.

BOYS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL

Friday’s scores

District 16-4A

Chapel Hill 53, Kilgore 42: Chapel Hill hosted Kilgore Friday night and held off KHS for the 53-42 win. That also allows Chapel Hill to claim a third consecutive district championship. Chapel Hill (12-1 in District 16-4A play) has won seven straight games since Kilgore dealt them their only district loss. Kilgore’s Bulldogs (10-3 in 16-4A) had a five-game winning streak snapped, but will still go into the UIL Class 4A, Division I playoffs as the No. 2 seed from the district.

The UIL, in the offseason, split other sports’ playoffs into a larger Division I and smaller Division II, as football has been for years, based on enrollment. So of the four teams making the playoffs in boys basketball in 16-4A — that would be Chapel Hill, Kilgore, Pine Tree and Gilmer — Pine Tree and Kilgore have the largest enrollments and will compete in the 4A-Division I playoffs, while Chapel Hill and Gilmer will be in 4A-Division II.

Kilgore led 23-21 at the half after back-to-back three-point shots by the Sanders brothers (Dre’ and Jayden).

Jayden Sanders had 14 points to lead KHS in scoring. Javon Towns had eight. Brayden Williams and Bi’Syn Williams each had six points. Kayson Brooks had five, and Dre’ Sanders, three.

For Chapel Hill, Malik Gee finished with 14 points. Jordan Ford had 13, and Jordyn Bradshaw added nine.

That game finished the regular season for both teams, who will soon be playoff-bound. When ETBlitz.com has playoff information, it’ll be posted here on the site ASAP.

Gilmer 55, Spring Hill 41: Although we don’t have scorers for this game, we can tell you that Gilmer is officially headed to the 4A-DII playoffs.

Henderson-Carthage: There was no score available at press time for this story for the Lions’ home game against Carthage; the playoffs in 16-4A have been set, and both Henderson and Carthage won’t be in this year’s field.

District 16-3A

Troup 50, White Oak 49: Troup bounced back from its loss at Tatum on Tuesday with a nice win over District 16-3A rival White Oak, on the Roughnecks’ home turf.

The Tigers had to overcome a huge performance by White Oak’s Campbell Sutton, who dropped 27 points. Scotty Breitenberg had nine for White Oak (4-7), who had a two-game winning streak snapped. Cal Jester and Mac Smith each scored four for the Roughnecks; and Andrew Rector and Keenan Jalomo each had two.

White Oak finishes its season on Tuesday night at Tatum, who had an open date on Friday night, but is going to claim the 16-3A championship (Tatum doesn’t have a district loss; the Eagles are 11-0 in 16-3A).

Troup (22-7 overall now and 8-3 in district play) are in second place in district, with one game to go: a home game Tuesday night against fourth-place Sabine. In the win at White Oak, Troup got 18 points from Caden Graves, who had five three-point shots. Braxton Barton had 14 for Troup, and Carson Davenport and Carter Graves each had six (both players hit two three-pointers). Keenan Foster had four, and Tre Anderson, two.

West Rusk 58, Sabine 57: Sabine could have clinched the final playoff spot in 16-3A with a win over West Rusk in at SHS on Friday night, but instead, the Cardinals will have to sweat it out through the regular season finale for both teams.

Sabine, 5-6 in district play with the loss, visits Troup on Tuesday night to close out the regular season; West Rusk (4-7) will host Arp on Tuesday.

Hudson McNatt had 24 points in the loss for Sabine Friday night; teammate Dalton Taylor had 15.

Arp 86, Gladewater 74: Speaking of the Arp Tigers, they won their seventh game of the 16-3A schedule Friday night at home against the Gladewater Bears.

Scorers weren’t immediately available, but Arp (7-4 in district play, 16-7 overall) is headed to the 3A-Division II playoffs. As mentioned earlier, the schools with the largest enrollment in each district will go 3A-Division I, and those with the smaller enrollments are 3A-Division II.

Gladewater’s regular season has ended and the Bears won’t make the playoffs; Gladewater actually has the largest enrollment in the district, followed by Sabine. So, if Sabine can get into the postseason, coach Ian Story’s Cardinals would go Division I. Tatum will also go DI, leaving Arp and Troup as the DII teams.

District 22-2A

The Overton High School Mustangs had an open date on Friday night, but recently claimed the top spot in the 22-2A standings with a win over Douglass.

Overton is 20-5 on the season overall, is 10-1 in district (they split the season series with Douglass), and has won six straight games. The Mustangs will finish the regular season on Monday at Cushing. Cushing has an outside shot at making the 2A playoffs, but likely has to beat Overton to get in.

As the program with the second-largest enrollment in the district, Overton will be in the 2A-Division I playoffs. Douglass will be 2A-Division II.
