EDITOR’S NOTE: Several teams, both boys and girls, from the ETBlitz.com coverage area (Arp, Gilmer, Gladewater, Henderson, Kilgore, Leverett’s Chapel, Overton, Sabine, Tatum, Troup, West Rusk and White Oak) made the University Interscholastic League’s high school basketball playoffs. The girls basketball playoffs are already to round three (see below); the boys just began this week. Here, we catch you up on both: in the girls playoffs, Tatum is the only one left standing from our coverage area, and of course, below are the boys’ first-round scores and more. When second round pairings are set, we’ll have them here on ETBlitz.com.
UIL GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS
CLASS 3A, DIVISION I
Sabine
First round (bi-district): Malakoff 61, Sabine 17, Floyd Wagstaff Gymnasium, Tyler Junior College, Feb. 11; Sabine eliminated from playoffs. Sabine’s Lady Cardinals finish 2024-25 season fourth in District 16-3A, with a 9-22 overall record.
Gladewater
First round (bi-district): Mineola 47, Gladewater 34, University of Texas at Tyler, Feb. 11; Gladewater eliminated from playoffs. Gladewater’s Lady Bears finish 2024-25 season third in District 16-3A, with a 10-15 overall record.
CLASS 3A, DIVISION II
Troup
First round (bi-district): Quitman 37, Troup 16, Union Grove High School, Feb. 10; Troup eliminated from playoffs. Troup’s Lady Tigers finish 2024-25 season second in District 16-3A, with a 23-9 overall record.
Tatum
First round (bi-district): Tatum 71, Edgewood 28, Winona High School, Feb. 10; Winona eliminated from playoffs.
Second round (area): Tatum 55, Hooks 45, Pittsburg High School, Feb. 13. Hooks, ranked ninth in the state in 3A in the Texas Girls Coaches Association poll, eliminated from playoffs.
Third round (regional semifinals): Tatum vs. Paradise. Tatum (24-6, winners of 12 straight, District 16-3A champions) vs. Paradise (24-10, winners of four straight, District 15-3A runners-up), Friday at Kaufman High School at 6 p.m. Tatum-Paradise winner will meet either Bells (26-10) or Quitman (26-9) in the regional final. UIL BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS
CLASS 4A, DIVISION I
Kilgore
First round (bi-district): Kilgore 56, Mabank 51, University of Texas at Tyler Patriot Center, Tuesday night, Feb. 18. Mabank eliminated from playoffs. Kilgore (13-13) will meet Paris (24-6) in the second, or area, round in a matchup to be announced. We’ll have it here on ETBlitz.com as soon as it is.
CLASS 4A, DIVISION II
Gilmer
First round (bi-district): Canton 56, Gilmer 40, Floyd Wagstaff Gymnasium at Tyler Junior College, Tuesday night, Feb. 18. Gilmer eliminated from playoffs. The Buckeyes finished the 2024-25 season fourth in District 16-4A, with a 13-16 overall record.
CLASS 3A, DIVISION I
Tatum
First round (bi-district): Tatum 77, Mineola 48, Lobo Coliseum, Longview High School, Tuesday night, Feb. 18. Mineola eliminated from playoffs. Liberty-Eylau defeated Daingerfield, 82-37. Tatum (27-2) will meet Liberty-Eylau (34-0) in the second, or area, round, in a matchup to be announced, which ETBlitz.com will do — as soon as it’s finalized.
Sabine
First round (bi-district): Malakoff 55, Sabine 50, Brownsboro High School, Tuesday night, Feb. 18. Sabine eliminated from playoffs. The Cardinals finished the 2024-25 season fourth in District 16-3A, with a 12-21 overall record. Confirming, from coach Ian Story: Hudson McNatt finished the season with 707 points (averaged 21.4 points per game).
CLASS 3A, DIVISION II
Troup
First round (bi-district): Grand Saline 63, Troup 62, Brownsboro High School, Monday night, Feb. 17. Troup eliminated from playoffs. The Tigers finished the 2024-25 season second in District 16-3A, with a 23-8 overall record.
Arp
First round (bi-district): Edgewood 60, Arp 41, Lindale High School, Tuesday night, Feb. 18. Arp eliminated from playoffs. The Tigers finished the 2024-25 season third in District 16-3A, with a 16-10 overall record.
CLASS 2A, DIVISION I
Overton
First round (bi-district): Overton 65, Union Grove 44, Winona High School, Tuesday night, Feb. 18. Union Grove eliminated from playoffs. Shelbyville defeated Beckville, 55-43. Overton (23-5) will meet Shelbyville (26-3) in the second, or area, round; when details of that game are set, we’ll have it here on ETBlitz.com.
