‘DOGS, LADY ‘DOGS WHIP TENAHA | Canchola nets five goals; Rojas, Reyes three each
Kilgore’s Adan Reyes (7, left) controls the ball against New Diana last Friday. Reyes had three goals and two assists in Tuesday’s 9-0 win over Tenaha, which had been scheduled to be a road game, but was moved here to R.E. St. John the day-of, due to excessive rain at Tenaha’s field. Ditto for the Lady Bulldogs and Tenaha, and they routed Tenaha, as well, 10-0. Both KHS teams face Henderson on Friday: the girls games are at Henderson, beginning at 5 with junior varsity, varsity to follow, and the boys here, the same format. Kilgore High School’s soccer teams both got unexpected home games on Tuesday, in District 17-4A.
Not surprisingly, they made the most of it. Especially Angelica Canchola, Diego Rojas and Adan Reyes.
Kilgore had been expected to play a doubleheader at Tenaha on Tuesday night, starting with the girls game. But coaches were notified around midday that Tenaha’s field might not hold up, after all the rain, so the games were moved here, to R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium.
Tenaha couldn’t keep up, losing the girls game to Kilgore, 10-0, and the boys game, 9-0.
Both of Kilgore’s soccer teams remain undefeated in district play – coach Hector Peralez’s Bulldogs are undefeated, period – and are back in action Friday. The Lady Bulldogs, coached by Todd BonDurant, are 8-2-1 on the season, and 4-0 in district. They’ll visit Henderson Friday, beginning with the junior varsity game at 5 p.m.
Henderson’s Lady Lions are 6-3-2, and 3-0 in district play, and come off a 10-0 win over Tatum Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs are 11-0-2, are also 4-0 in district play, and will host Henderson, also starting with JV at 5.
In Kilgore’s girls win over Tenaha, Canchola blew by everybody, scoring five goals! Reese Burgess continued her successful return from injury, scoring twice. And Emily Beason, sister Elizabeth Beason, and Phenix Rivers each scored once.
Rojas and Reyes also burned it up. Rojas scored Kilgore’s first three goals. He scored before the game was 30 seconds old, off an assist from Jorge Aleman, then he scored an unassisted goal, and then another, this one off an assist from Reyes, who would score three times and have two assists.
Aleman scored the ‘Dogs’ fourth goal, also off an assist from Reyes, and then fittingly, Reyes made it 5-0 on a free kick.
Rojas scored goal No. 6 unassisted, and then Reyes scored off a corner kick from Javier Baide.
Freshman Jerson Alevar Flores scored, and then Reyes scored his third goal off an assist from Rojas, what would be the final goal of the night.
