We’ve been playing the waiting game this Friday, April 4 to give you the absolute most recent information on what’s happening with baseball and softball in relation to the weather.

Here’s the absolute latest, in some cases just a few minutes before we hit the “publish” button on this story.

BASEBALL

District 16-4A

Kilgore: Coach Zach Hubbard’s Diamond ‘Dogs, who have won four in a row in District 16-4A and six of their last seven, are set to play at Chapel Hill, the team at the bottom of the district standings (the yellow-and-blue Bulldogs are 4-17 and 0-8 in district). Kilgore beat Chapel Hill, 11-2, on Tuesday, and the Bulldogs are now 6-2 in district play. That’s the third-best record in the district behind Spring Hill (8-0) and Carthage (7-1). We’ll have district standings on Saturday, or after this entire round of games gets played.

At any rate, Kilgore plays at Chapel Hill at 4:30, varsity only, and today’s junior varsity game is canceled.

Henderson: The Lions are set to host Pine Tree at 7 p.m. – we see no time change or different arrangement, although weather will obviously force it. Henderson is 11-9 on the season, and 5-3 in 16-4A; Pine Tree is 4-10 on the season overall, and 2-6 in district.

Gilmer: The Buckeyes visit Cumberland Academy in Tyler tonight, and their Facebook page says weather-permitting, varsity only at 6 p.m. Cumberland also is 0-8 in district play. The Buckeyes are 11-8 overall, and 4-4 in 16-4A.

District 16-3A

Tatum-Troup: Coach Dustin Russell’s Eagles (14-5, 7-1) host Troup (15-6, 4-2) at 5 p.m., and it’s varsity-only tonight. It’s also youth night at the park.

White Oak-West Rusk: The Roughnecks (16-3-1 overall, 6-1 in district) will host West Rusk (7-11-1, 2-4 in district) in another varsity-only night at 5 p.m.

Sabine-Gladewater: Coach Zac Spears’ Bears (12-8 overall, 3-5 in 16-3A) will make the short trip to Liberty City for a 4 p.m. varsity-only date; Sabine will try for its first win of the season (0-17, 0-6).

And Arp (7-11-1 overall, 2-5 in district) has the evening off.

District 19-2A

Overton: The Mustangs (15-5, 5-2) won’t play today. Their game against Ore City will be played at Ore City, but on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Leverett’s Chapel: The school’s Facebook page announced earlier this afternoon that the baseball game today has been canceled due to weather. No rescheduling announcement was made. The Lions are 2-5-1 overall and 0-1 in district play.

SOFTBALL

District 16-4A

Henderson: The Lady Lions (17-6-1 overall, 5-2 in District 16-4A) are still planning to host Pine Tree (8-14-1, 4-4 in district), but now it’s a varsity-only night, a 6 p.m. start.

Kilgore: The Lady Bulldogs (3-15 overall, 1-6 in district) also are playing varsity-only at Chapel Hill tonight, also at 6 p.m.

Gilmer: Gilmer, who has won 12 of its last 13, steps out of district – weather permitting – to host Mineola (12-8-2) tonight at 6 p.m.

District 16-3A

Tatum-Troup: These two will meet in Tatum (7-10, 4-5 in district), varsity only, at 4:40, just a bit before the game, for senior night festivities if the rain will hold off. Troup is 19-5 overall and 7-1 in district and has won seven in a row.

White Oak-West Rusk: Coach Nineveh Blankenship’s Lady’Necks (11-9-1, 5-2 in district) will be ready for a visit from the West Rusk Lady Raiders, coached by Dr. Bill Morton, who would love to turn their district schedule around. This also will be varsity-only, starting at 4:30.

Sabine-Gladewater: There’s a theme going here, but there will be varsity-only at Liberty City this afternoon between Sabine’s Lady Cardinals (0-11, 0-8) and Gladewater (8-12-1, 4-5) when the first pitch is thrown at 4:30.

Arp (22-4, 8-1 in District 16-3A) has the night off.

District 19-2A

Overton (13-8-1, 9-0 in district play) has postponed its game at Ore City tonight. Instead, the Lady Mustangs will play Ore City (5-14-1, 3-6 in district) on Saturday IN HALLSVILLE at 6 p.m., varsity-only.
