AREA VOLLEYBALL STANDOUTS RECOGNIZED| Texas Sportswriters Association releases this year’s honorees

What we at ETBlitz.com like to call the REAL all-state teams were released this week.

The Texas Sportswriters Association (TSWA), the members of the media across the state that actually cover the high school athletes and watch them every week, has an all-state team for most team sports: football, volleyball, basketball (boys and girls), baseball, etc.

And the TSWA released in the last few days its volleyball all-state teams, divided by classification.

There are some notable names from the ETBlitz coverage area on the list, some that we think you’ll recognize.

Making the TSWA’s Class 4A Volleyball All-State team this year from our coverage area: Henderson middle blocker Addison Standley, chosen to the third team. Honorable mentions on the 4A team, from the ETBlitz area: outside hitter Kate Charlo of Henderson, Maleah Thurmond of Kilgore, also listed as an outside hitter; Kilgore setter Elle Litchenburg; and libero Maurine Witt.

Wimberley took both superlatives; Laney Hennessee was named the player of the year and Misty Fletcher-Remmers was named coach of the year.

On the TSWA’s Class 3A Volleyball All-State team, Tatum High School outside hitter Kamdyn Scott and libero Karly Stroud. On the 3A third team, White Oak’s Addison McClanahan made the list as an outside hitter, and Tatum’s Taydem Barker at setter.

And on the 3A team’s honorable mention list: middle blockers Shiloh Sluder of Troup; West Rusk’s Kamyah Lacy and Hannah Haffner; and White Oak’s Aley Dixon; outside hitters Emory Cover of Troup; Kaysen Foster of Tatum; Maddie Birdsong of Arp; Andee Bridges of White Oak; and West Rusk’s Carlie Buckner; setters Alli Sims of White Oak, Isabella “Bella” Mata of West Rusk; and Keeley McCann of Sabine; liberos Keke Murphy of West Rusk and Karsyn Edwards of White Oak.

Class 3A’s player of the year and coach of the year were both from Stockdale: Laura Gonzales the player, and Leann Wise, the coach.

On the TSWA’s Class 2A Volleyball All-State Team, no ETBlitz-area players, but the superlatives: Bre Featherston of Crawford was named player of the year, and Crawford’s Jeff Coker won the coaches’ award.

ETBlitz.com’s own All-ETBlitz Volleyball Team will hit our site on Sunday morning!
