AREA TRACK COMING NEXT WEEK | Who’s going to area from Kilgore, West Rusk? Here’s the list
Some track & field athletes from Kilgore High School won’t be able to attend the Bulldogs’ state soccer tournament appearance on Wednesday – they’ll be busy competing themselves at the area meet at Spring Hill High School in Longview.
And West Rusk athletes are headed to area, too; they can walk outside. The area meet is right in their backyard, at the track at their own Bruce Bradshaw Stadium, on Thursday.
The Bulldogs return to the scene of their district meet last week for the area meet, with hopes of advancing to the regional meet.
For the Lady Bulldogs, it’ll be (in alphabetical order) long-distance runner Ruby Almanza competing in both the 800 meter run and the 1,600 meter (mile) run; Maddison Harris in the shot put; Tamia Hill in the 100 meter dash; Kassidy Oliver in the discus; and the team of Elle Litchenburg, Lizzy Walker, Giselle Webster and Aaliyah Williams in the mile relay.
And coach T.J. Gillen-Hall’s Bulldogs have quite a few going back to Spring Hill, as well. Again, in alphabetical order: Luciano Brizuela in the 800 meter run, the mile run and the 3,200, or two-mile, run; Carsyn Bynum, Zachery Gutierrez, Jayden Sanders and Jacory Walton in the mile relay; Cam Christian in the shot put; Gutierrez also in the 800 meter run; Braydon Nelson in both the shot put and the discus after winning both last week at district; Sanders in the high jump; Walton in the high jump and triple jump; and Sam Warren in both the 800 meter run and the mile run.
For West Rusk’s Lady Raiders, all three of the relay teams are going. Chloe Petty, Bella Mata, Kamyah Lacy and Keke Murphy will run the 400 and 800 meter relays for WR, and the mile relay will be the team of Jada Maroney, Laina Hayes, Zoe Smires and Natalia Mata.
Also, Hayes will run in the 800 meter run, and Sophia Lacy will run in both the 800 and the mile run. West Rusk’s girls won both the varsity and junior varsity district team titles this past week.
West Rusk’s boys 800 meter relay team and mile relay team are both competing in area: Pauline Martinez, Xander Mason, Max Carrillo and David Molina.
And ETBlitz.com will have coverage of the meets as well, and more track coverage coming next week. Good luck to these athletes!
