As Kilgore College’s football program has done several times in the past, the Rangers will host an open tryout on Saturday for athletes with college eligibility remaining.

The purpose, of course, is to do well enough to make the Rangers’ team. The Rangers are the reigning, defending Southwest Junior College Football Conference champions – and they also made the NJCAA’s national championship top-four playoff.

The tryout is this Saturday, March 9, at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium in Kilgore, on Harris Street. Registration, which is $30 per athlete, begins at 10 a.m. (there is no pre-registration), and the tryouts will begin roughly 30 minutes afterward.

Normally, the event is an NFL-style combine-type tryout that lasts for a little more than two hours, coaches explain. Kilgore College’s coaching staff will, of course, be on hand.

Prospective players / athletes should bring their own workout gear, including cleats / tennis shoes.

Kilgore College football fans might also want to keep this date in mind: Saturday, April 27.

That’s the date that the 2023 Rangers will receive their conference championship rings, honoring them for the 2023 season. And it’ll also be the day fans can get a preview of the 2024 season: the spring game, annual Blue-Gray spring scrimmage, will also be that day, again Saturday, April 27, at 1:30 p.m. at R.E. St. John.
