WOW! | Lots of ETBlitz-area athletes from 3A programs headed to Austin for state track meet!

On Saturday, results came in from the UIL Class 4A regional meet at Texas A&M-Commerce, the 2A regional at Palestine and the 1A regional at Waco Midway.

Today, we’ve got results from the 3A-Region II meet at Whitehouse High School, and we do have athletes that are state-bound!

Tatum’s Cayden Tatum and Luke Sigler helped the Eagles win the boys 3A state basketball title. Now they’ll be at the state meet May 1-3 at the University of Texas in Austin.

And they’re both going in as winners. Tatum won first place in the high jump at regionals with a best of 6 feet, 8 inches on Saturday, and Sigler took first in the long jump, a best of 23 feet, 9 inches.

Sabine thrower Sam Black? He was in Austin as a junior, and he’ll be back as a senior, in both the discus and the shot put, because he won ‘em both at regionals. Black went for 171 feet, 1 inch in the discus, and 59 feet, 9 ¾ inches in shot.

Hey, Troup’s A.J. Dewberry is going, too, after a second-place finish in the discus (163 feet, 2 inches).

Gladewater’s Kingston Sheffield will be in Austin, too! Sheffield took second on Saturday in the triple jump – 48 feet, 11 inches.

Troup’s 800 meter relay team is going to Austin! The team of Brett Wells, Cayden Clyburn, Bryce Wallum and DeCarryon Hollie finished second, in 1 minute, 28.90 seconds, just behind Paradise (1:28.08).

And the White Oak Roughnecks are headed to Austin, too, a few of them.

Kyler Priest and Trevor Sizemore did it in style, going 1-2 in the pole vault. Priest won it, a best of 15 feet, 6 inches, and Sizemore was second, at 14 feet, 6 inches).

White Oak is also sending its boys mile relay to UT for state! The team of Jaxson Ludlow, Anthony Soto, Tyson McKinney and Angel Mejia ran the 1600 relay in 3 minutes, 22.89 seconds, behind only Gunter (3:21, flat).

In the girls results from the meet, two Gladewater relay teams are going to state!

Both the 400 meter and 800 meter relay teams are headed to UT. Gladewater’s 400 meter relay team of Ki’zyah Miles, Peyton Hunter, Paytin Thompson and Adyson Evans won the 400 at regionals in 48.29 seconds. The girls were second in the 800 relay, in 1 minute, 42.02 seconds.

Paytin Thompson and Peyton Hunter from the Lady Bears are both also going individually.

Thompson is headed to state in the 200 meter dash; Hunter in the long jump.

Paytin was second behind New Diana’s Starmia Dixon in the 200 meter dash. Thompson’s time was 25.10 seconds. And Hunter was second to Dixon in the long jump (18 feet, 1 ½ inches).

Sarah Roberts will represent Sabine at state. Roberts won the 400 meter run (56.18 seconds) at regionals.

How about Adelaide Murphy? The West Rusk girls long-distance runner is headed to state in BOTH the 1,600 meter, or mile, run AND the 3,200 meter, or two-mile! Murphy ran the mile in 5 minutes, 15.20 seconds, second at regionals, and also was second in the two-mile (11 minutes, 44.09 seconds).

And West Rusk’s Gabby Coleman – she’ll be going to UT in the 3A shot put. Coleman was second at regionals with a best of 38 feet, 7 ¾ inches.

Boys results

Boys 100 meter dash: Troup’s Hollie was third (11.05 seconds); Winnsboro’s Camden Capehart won the event, in 10.65 seconds, and Atlanta’s Markeylin Batton was second (11.02). White Oak’s Logan Ladwig was also in this one, finishing seventh (11.38).

200 meter dash: West Rusk’s Judson Dotson was third (22.91 seconds), behind Grand Saline’s Jett Taylor (21.91) and Gunter’s Jay Campiti (22.36).

400 meter run: White Oak’s Jaxson Ludlow was third (49.54 seconds) and Sabine’s Terry Vanden (51.09 seconds) was fourth. Gunter’s Mitchell Cage (47.72) won it, with Winona’s Jakai Timmons second (47.83).

3200 meter (two-mile) run: Tatum’s Victor Cantellano finished in 10:18.68, in eighth. Winona’s Kason Miles was first (9:46.70) and Commerce’s Chase Gossett, second (9:49.92).

110 meter hurdles: James Pierce of Troup was fourth (15.46 seconds) and Sabine’s Preston Swords, fifth (15.54). Dallas Madison’s Taevon Crayton won it in 14.71 seconds, and Malakoff’s Luke Craine was second (15.22 seconds).

300 meter hurdles: Pierce was fourth in this one, too (40.37 seconds). Brayden Williams of Daingerfield won it (39.05) and Crayton, of Madison, was second (39.14).

400 meter relay: Troup’s team was third (42.14 seconds). Tatum’s team finished fifth (42.89).

800 meter relay: We told you about Troup; West Rusk was fourth in this event (1:28.95), where the top five were separated by less than a SECOND. White Oak was eighth (1:30.65).

1,600 meter (mile) relay: This is the event in which the Roughnecks made the state meet.

High jump: Jordan Chambers of Tatum was also in the high jump, finishing 11th (5 feet, 10 inches).

Long jump: Gladewater’s Kingston Sheffield was third, in 22 feet, 4 ½ inches, and Troup’s Bryce Wallum was eighth (21 feet, 9 ¼ inches).

Triple jump: Sheffield was second, as mentioned. Arp’s Demarcus Wade was third (46 feet, 2 ½ inches) and Troup’s Pierce was sixth (44 feet, 11 ½ inches).

Pole vault: White Oak’s Priest and Sizemore went 1-2, and Riley Blackmon of Troup was 3 – as in third, at 14 feet, even.

Discus: We told you about Black and Dewberry, in for state at 1-2. Arp’s Zyon Washington was eighth (134 feet, 9 inches).

Shot put: Again, we told you about Black qualifying in this event earlier. Sabine’s Jonah Brenner was 10th in the shot (43 feet, 4 ¾ inches) and White Oak’s Caden Durham was 16th (35 feet, 2 ¼ inches).

Girls results

100 meter dash: Peyton Hunter of Gladewater was a narrow miss to qualify here, third (12.35 seconds) behind New Diana’s Starmia Dixon (12.11) and Trinity-Cedar Hill’s Adedoyin Aderibigbe (12.32).

200 meter dash: Thompson’s second-place time we reported; Dixon’s winning time was 24.89 seconds. Ryann Long of White Oak was in the prelims for this event, and finished 14th (27.14 seconds).

400 meter run: We reported that Roberts from Sabine won this event above; West Rusk’s Jada Meroney was ninth in the prelims (1:02.98).

1,600 meter (mile) run: As mentioned, West Rusk’s Murphy was second here and qualified for state. Tatum’s Akeira Oden was fourth in this event (5:31.50).

3,200 meter (two-mile) run: Again, Murphy qualified here with a second-place finish, as well; Oden was sixth (12:02.75).

100 meter hurdles: Tatum’s Kaysen Foster was fourth (16.47 seconds).

300 meter hurdles: White Oak’s Addison Saccoccio was fourth (47.92 seconds) and Gladewater’s Hydie Collins, eighth (50.37 seconds).

400 meter relay: As mentioned, Gladewater’s Lady Bears took first in this event; West Rusk’s team was seventh (50.11 seconds).

800 meter relay: The Lady Bears were second in this one, and West Rusk was fourth (1:45.59). White Oak was ninth in the prelims (1:46.98).

1,600 meter (mile) relay: Sabine was ninth in prelims (4:10.35).

High jump: Troup’s Emory Cover was fourth (5 feet, even), and Tatum’s Foster was 10th (4 feet, 10 inches).

Long jump: Hunter is moving on to Austin in this one, behind only Dixon, as mentioned, from New Diana. Gladewater’s Thompson was in this event, too, and finished seventh (16 feet, 5 ¾ inches) and Sabine’s Autumn Rhodes finished 15th (15 feet, 2 ¾ inches).

Pole vault: White Oak’s Lizzy Still was fifth (10 feet, 6 inches); the winner was Mineola’s Tierany Neighbors (14 feet, even).

Discus: Tatum’s Hadley Dunnvant was seventh (109 feet, 9 inches). Arp’s Landry Langley was 10th (101 feet, 9 inches), and Troup’s Hannah Cearley was 11th (95 feet, 1 inch).

Shot put: West Rusk’s Coleman was second, as mentioned, and Hooks’ Rayya Brown won the thing with a best of 39 feet, 9 ¼ inches. Gladewater’s Karlee Moses was 10th (32 feet, 6 inches).
