BYNUM BURNS INTO REGIONALS! | Kilgore’s 100 yard dash man blisters his way to Commerce; plenty KHS, Henderson, & Gilmer athletes qualify for regionals next week

So, to say the three 4A high schools in the ETBlitz.com coverage area will have a strong presence at the regional meet next weekend in Commerce – that’d be a drastic understatement.
There will be Kilgore, Gilmer and Henderson athletes all over that complex at Texas A&M-Commerce next Friday and Saturday after all three had a big day at the area meet at Lindale’s Eagle Stadium on Thursday.
Boys regional qualifiers
Here are regional qualifiers for Gilmer, Henderson and Kilgore in boys events after the area meet in Lindale. Top-four finishers at the area meet moved on to regionals. From regionals, athletes advance to the University Interscholastic League State Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium at the University of Texas in Austin on May 1, 2 and 3.
100 meter dash: Kilgore’s Carson Bynum won this event at area (10.88 seconds) and Gilmer’s Trillyon Butler finished second (10.91 seconds).
200 meter dash: Henderson’s Brailon Walker finished second (22.07 seconds).
400 meter run: Kilgore’s Jacory Walton qualified in this event with a fourth-place finish (50.88 seconds).
800 meter run: Luciano Brizuela qualified for Kilgore, a third-place finish (1 minute, 58.35 seconds).
110 meter hurdles: Two for Gilmer here: Brendan Webb, with a second-place finish (14.45 seconds) and Tru Griffin-Wilson (15.20 seconds), who finished fourth.
300 meter hurdles: Gilmer’s Griffin-Wilson won this event (39.22 seconds), and Kilgore’s Rylan Chaney was third (40.68 seconds).
Discus: Lucas Cano of Gilmer won this (187 feet, 10 inches).
Shot put: Cano won this event, as well (57 feet, even), and teammate Derion Andrews was second (51 feet). Kilgore’s Cam Christian was third (48 feet).
400 meter relay: Henderson’s team finished second in 42.34 seconds. At district, that team was Corey Harper, Zeshaun Reed, Au’maz Jackson, and Brailon Walker.
800 meter relay: Gilmer’s team won this one, BARELY edging out Kilgore – Gilmer’s time was 1 minute, 27.57 seconds and Kilgore’s time, 1 minute, 27.97 seconds. Gilmer’s team at district was Lucas Cano, Solomon Jackson, DeRIon Andrews, Tru Wilson and Brendan Webb. Kilgore’s team at area was Takieran White, Jayden Sanders, Lakeyleon Graves, and Carsyn Bynum. Henderson’s team came in fourth in this event in 1:29.42; at district, the four that ran that event for the Lions were Lemarion Coleman, Harper, Jackson, and Walker.
1600 (mile) relay: For many years, this was Kilgore’s specialty under longtime coach Phillip Lane. Kilgore qualified for regionals in this event with a third-place finish at area on Thursday, in 3:27.23. If the same team that ran it at district ran it at area, then it was Bynum, Chaney, Jayden Sanders and Walton that qualified.
High jump: Gilmer’s Webb also won this event (6 feet, 6 inches), and Walton was third for Kilgore (6 feet, 4 inches).

Girls regional qualifiers
Here are regional qualifiers for Gilmer, Henderson and Kilgore in girls events after the area meet in Lindale. Just like the boys, top-four finishers at the area meet move on to regionals. From regionals, athletes advance to the University Interscholastic League State Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium at the University of Texas in Austin on May 1, 2 and 3.
100 meter dash: Gilmer’s Tasyiah Lewis (12.37 seconds) was second in this event.
200 meter dash: Gilmer’s Alondria Nelson won this event (24.99 seconds).
400 meter run: Adleigh France of Gilmer (1 minute, 1.08 seconds) was fourth.s
1600 meter (mile) run: Henderson’s decorated long-distance runner Gissele Alejandro finished second (5 minutes, 37.07 seconds), and Gilmer’s Alondra Dominguez (5 minutes, 41.29 seconds) finished third and also qualified for regionals.
3200 meter (two-mile) run: Henderson’s Alejandro (12 minutes, 7.54 seconds) again was second, and Gilmer’s Dominguez (12 minutes, 21.14 seconds) was fourth.
100 meter hurdles: Gilmer’s Johnae Newsome was second (15.58 seconds).
300 meter hurdles: Newsome also qualified in this one, finishing third (46.56 seconds).
Long jump: Gilmer’s Lewis won this event (17 feet, 2 inches).
Discus: Gilmer’s Brooke Collie (116 feet, 9 inches) had the best throw of the day to win the event, and Kilgore’s Kassidy Oliver (113 feet, 6 ¾ inches) was third.
Shot put: Kilgore’s Makayla Jackson (33 feet, 2 inches) was fourth.
Adaptive girls 100 meter wheelchair race: Henderson’s Lane Meador (26.72 seconds) won this event.
400 meter relay: Gilmer’s team was second in 47.83 seconds, and Henderson’s team was fourth in 50.02 seconds.
800 meter relay: The Lady Buckeyes were second here, as well, in 1 minute, 40.48 seconds.
1600 meter (mile) relay: Gilmer won this one: they did it in the time of 3 minutes, 57.31 seconds.
