AGENT ZERO WILL WEAR THAT NUMBER | Arp’s Overshown to make jersey switch, will wear ‘0’ with Cowboys

Never in the history on the Dallas Cowboys – and that’s saying something – has a member of the team wore the number zero.

Well, until today.

Former Arp High School and University of Texas standout DeMarvion Overshown, a linebacker for the Cowboys, is rehabbing a knee injury he suffered in the 2024 season. But when Overshown gets back on the field – and he assured ETBlitz.com staff and everyone else that he would earlier this year – that’s the number he’ll be wearing.

Overshown confirmed the change to the franchise’s website and to writer Patrik Walker on Wednesday.

“As soon as they changed the policy where you can now wear No. 0 in the NFL, I just knew it was meant to be,” Overshown told Walker. “Being the first one to wear it at Texas, growing up a Longhorn and a Cowboy in the great state of Texas — I wear it as a badge of honor. It’s not too many people that get to say they’re the first to do anything, and to say I’m the first wear No. 0 at Texas and the first to do it in Dallas Cowboys’ history, that’s a badge of honor.”

There is a little more to the explanation of “never.” The National Football League didn’t allow players to wear “0” until the 2023 season, and that year, safety Jayron Kearse planned to do so. But he wound up wearing No. 1 instead.

And Overshown’s nickname lends itself to the story: “Agent Zero.”

Overshown was selected by the Cowboys out of Texas with the 90th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The former Arp Tiger tore an ACL in one knee and missed his rookie season, but then tore the ACL in the other knee in the 2024 season.

At the time of his injury, he was having a very good season, missing the final three games. He finished with 92 tackles, 53 solo tackles, five sacks, a forced fumble and an interception that he returned for a touchdown against the New York Giants.

In February, as the city of Arp and Arp ISD officials were on hand, Arp Mayor Terry Lowry dedicated a sign in Overshown’s honor on the outskirts of town, on Highway 64 (WELL-DESERVED | Arp dedicates new standing honor to native son DeMarvion Overshown).

Members of the media were also on hand, including ETBlitz.com, and Overshown talked about his family, teammates, new incoming Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer, rehabbing the knee, the love he has for the Arp community, and more.

At the end of the ceremony, as everyone dispersed, Overshown told ETBlitz this: “You’ll see me back on that field (in 2025),” he said. “I promise you that.”

In the interview with Walker on the Cowboys’ website, Overshown predicted big things after switching from No. 13 to No. 0.

“It’s just like when Superman put on his cape, when I put that No. 0 on, it’s really Agent 0 out there,” Overshown said.
