KILGORE TOPS CHAPEL HILL | ‘Dogs get run-rule win in game moved from Friday; Overton wins, as well; waiting on others to finish
Kilgore High School’s Diamond ‘Dogs had to wait three days to play their road game at Chapel Hill.
They scored three days’ worth of runs when they finally made the trip.
Kilgore unloaded on Chapel Hill, a 13-3 final, on Monday at Chapel Hill’s home field on the outskirts of Tyler, a fifth straight win for coach Zach Hubbard’s Diamond ‘Dogs.
Kilgore is now 10-12-1 on the season, has won seven of their last eight, and the Bulldogs are 7-2 in District 16-4A. The Bulldogs are in third place in the district standings behind Spring Hill and Carthage.
Kilgore baseball wasn’t the only team in action Monday from the ETBlitz.com coverage area; there were others who had games postponed from Friday that were to play on Monday. But they were either still playing or we’re retrieving information. We’ll place it here when we have it.
Henderson softball defeated Pine Tree in a District 16-4A game, 9-1, and Overton baseball defeated Ore City, 10-2 (see below).
Back to Kilgore.
Kilgore will get its chance to face Spring Hill this week. The ‘Dogs will do so twice: they’ll host the Panthers on Tuesday at Driller Park, a 4:30 p.m. junior varsity start, varsity to follow, and then will go to Spring Hill on Friday – JV will again play at 4:30, then varsity.
In Monday’s 13-3 win, KHS scored three runs in the first inning, four in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the sixth to end the game a little early with the run-rule. The Bulldogs had 14 hits in the game, and Kilgore pitching held Chapel Hill to five hits.

Hale scored on a single by Cason Edney, and then Hendrickson went to third on a ball put into play by Brayden Williams. Williams reached on a fielder’s choice – Edney was thrown out at second.
With two outs, Kilgore would still get two more runs. Miles Applegate reached on a passed ball / dropped third strike, and Hendrickson would score on the play (2-0), as Williams advanced to third.
The next at-bat belonged to Jackson Tucker Phillips, and Williams came home on a fielder’s choice for a 3-0 Kilgore lead.
Chapel Hill would tie the game in the bottom of the second, but CHHS wouldn’t get another run.
In the top of the fourth, Chapel Hill got two quick outs on Kilgore, but then KHS would do some damage.

After taking care of Chapel Hill in the bottom of the fourth, Kilgore added two more in the fifth. Williams singled to right, went to second and then third on a single by Applegate, then scored on a single by JTP (8-3).
Henry, running for Applegate, held up at third on a bunt by J. Dickey (as JTP successfully stole second base), scored on a sac fly by Clayton (9-3).
In the sixth: yet another hit by Hale, this one a single to left. He made it to third on back-to-back grounders hit by Hendrickson and Edney.
With two outs, more fireworks. Williams singled to score Hale (10-3), and Applegate hit a triple, scoring Williams (11-3). JTP earned a five-pitch walk. Then, during an at-bat by Henry, Chapel Hill pitcher Colton Reynolds was called for a balk. Henry was awarded home (12-3), and JTP would score on a double by Henry (13-3) for the final run of the game.
