To win the Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Player of the Week is always special, and far from the easiest thing to accomplish.

To do so at this time of year, with baseball, softball, soccer, track and field, spring tennis, golf, and the end of basketball going on is a true achievement.

How about getting the news that you’ve won the award on the same day you sign a letter of intent with a college?

That’s what happened Wednesday at Sabine High School, when senior soccer standout Analiyah Fierros – a finalist for the award two weeks running before actually winning – was getting ready to take her seat for her signing ceremony.

She smiled when presented the gifts for winning the award, which include some special items from Whataburger and a Whataburger-orange ETBlitz T-shirt, and then proceeded to sign with Southwestern Adventist University.

And so congratulations to Analiyah for her signing, and also for being named one of the Whataburger / ETB Players of the Week award-winners for the week of Feb. 24-March 1, alongside White Oak’s Jaxsen Ludlow!

Fierros scored seven goals in two wins for the Lady Cardinals and head coach Jason Bragg last week. In a 6-0 win over Tatum on Tuesday, Feb. 25, Fierros had half of Sabine’s scoring, netting three goals.

And then in a 7-0 win over Carthage on Friday, she scored four goals, and also had an assist.

Analiyah has 22 goals on the season, by the way. Her Lady Cardinals play at Henderson in the regular season finale for both programs on Friday night at 6:30.

Now, Mr. Ludlow.

Jaxsen has an opportunity to do something few have done.

The Whataburger / ETB awards began in January, 2024, two months after this site was launched.

In that time, there have been a handful of people, including White Oak’s Addison McClanahan, that have won a player of the week award in more than one sport.

Ludlow had won one already for football – he’s the Roughnecks’ quarterback – and now, he’s got one in baseball.

Winning one in track at some point this season would give him the hat trick, a three-sport player of the week award-winner.

No pressure or anything, Jaxsen. 😊

Last week, in tournament play, Ludlow had four singles and 2 RBI in an 8-7 comeback win over Mount Vernon (White Oak trailed 6-4).

Then in a 6-0 win over Palmer, Ludlow hit the double-digit strikeout plateau: 11 strikeouts, as he gave up just three hits and didn’t walk anyone in the win. At the plate, he had three hits and scored.

Ludlow and Analiyah join a growing list of honorees this school year. Here they are, with links for anyone who’d like to go back and read those stories:

How about Whataburger winning an award?

Well, that happens, and it should, as the best place to stop for food not just in Texas, but anywhere.

According to our quick research, there are (as of January, 2025) 1,109 Whataburger restaurants in the U.S. And 761 of ‘em are in Texas. The others are in (in alphabetical order) Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Tennessee.

And there are some happy people in those states as a result.

Whataburger, owned locally in Kilgore, Henderson and several East Texas locations by DKT Investments, was founded in Corpus Christi in 1950, by Harmon Dobson and Paul Burton, and it’s been making people happy ever since. The original Whataburger, milkshakes, French fries, apple pies, patty melts and all of the great items are still there, and new things – like the Monterey Melt and Whatawings – are on the menu.

And they’re on the menu 24 hours a day, seven days a week on the Whataburger app, or here, on their website: Whataburger | Order Online with Curbside and Delivery.

So enjoy Whataburger anytime, like the ETBlitz crew does, and when you see Jaxsen Ludlow or Analiyah Fierros, tell them congratulations for being a part of the tradition, and winning the Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Player of the Week!
