Going to Tatum and winning a basketball game is kind of like shouting in a library.

You just don’t do it.

Not girls games; not boys games.

Not games. Not at all.

And now, they’re taking that act on the road. Pretty soon, the Eagles and Lady Eagles just won’t lose. Is that what we’re talking here?

Well, yeah, pretty much.

Coach Brett Carr and the Eagles are off to an 18-2 start to the season. They’re 5-0 in District 16-3A, which also includes all of the programs in the ETBlitz.com coverage area (Sabine, Arp, Troup, West Rusk, White Oak, and Gladewater).

Oh, and there’s this: they’re ranked No. 2 in the whole freaking state of Texas in Class 3A.

For all of that – and mainly because they won both of their games last week in impressive Week for the Week of Monday, Jan. 6 through Saturday, Jan. 11!

The guys had an open date on Tuesday, Jan. 14, but after what they did last week, they probably needed a breather.

They hosted West Rusk and won, 105-34 (the Eagles are 7-0 at home so far this season) last Tuesday, Jan. 7, and then on Friday, they went to Troup and won, 79-50. And neither West Rusk nor Troup are bad basketball teams: West Rusk always has great athletes, and is 2-2 in district play right now, and Troup is 17-6 overall and 3-2 in district play, and was 8-1 at home this season prior to that loss to Tatum.

Luke Sigler, who had a monster week, led the Eagles over the West Rusk Raiders with 23 points, and JaCorie Bradley had 22. Cayden Tatum had 1, and Jordan Chambers, Quincy Davis and Cooper Whiteus each had 11.

Nalayus Boyd chipped in seven, and Nick D’Souza and Carlos Hernandez each scored two.

Then, on Friday at Troup, Tatum got a 79-50 win over a very good Tigers team, in spite of Troup knocking down nine three-point shots (Carter Graves had four of ‘em).

Sigler had one more point than he did against West Rusk, this time finishing with 24 – 47 points in two games last week. You might hear more about Luke tomorrow here on ETBlitz.com – that’s a hint.

Bradley added 17 points. Chambers, 15. Boyd and Whiteus each had eight. Tatum had five, and Davis, two. The Eagles also got into the three-point shooting act, as they hit five threes of their own: Sigler had two of them, and Chambers, Tatum and Whiteus each had one.

The Eagles will be back in action at White Oak this Friday night, starting with junior varsity games at 5 p.m.
