KC’S LADY RANGERS | They’re the Goudarzi & Young, LLP / ETBlitz.com Team of the Week!
The Goudarzi & Young, LLP / ETBlitz.com Team of the Week Award returns today after a week’s absence, honoring a team for their performance last week.
That team is none other than the Kilgore College Lady Rangers basketball team.
Don’t look now, but coach Stephanie Williams’ squad has been pretty amazing in its last several games, dating back to last season, when they finished the 2023-24 season by making a run all the way to the semifinals of the Region XIV Conference Tournament.
KC has been back from the Christmas break just two games – their own Evelyn Blalock Classic mini-tournament late last week – but they’re already 2-0 in 2025, had been ranked No. 21 in the NJCAA national poll prior to that, and after what they did over the weekend, it’s likely a move-up in the poll this week is coming.
The Lady Rangers routed Hill College, 82-41, and that’s great, but Friday’s game was far more impressive: a 62-58 win over McLennan, avenging their last loss before the holiday break, and dealing McLennan – the No. 10 team in the nation – a road loss.
KC’s ladies are 11-4 overall, they’re 6-0 at home, and the decision to hire Williams is beginning to look brilliant.
We had the game story from KC-Hill last week, but here’s the numbers from the Friday win over McLennan.
The Lady Rangers’ defense held the nation’s 10th-ranked team to just 58 points: only two players for McLennan – Tajenae Gooden and Jalayah Ingram – scored in double figures. Gooden led the way with 14, and Ingram had 11. And no McLennan player had more than eight rebounds; only three had more than five rebounds.
McLennan also went 18-of-32 from the free throw line.
KC, meanwhile, got 17 points each from Madison Bob AND from Nakiyah Allen, and 12 from Jarahle Daniels. Bob went off, netting 17 points including a three-pointer, five rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots.
Allen had nine rebounds to go with her 17 points, an assist, two steals and also blocked three shots.
Daniels had the 12 points, as well as five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Anyla Herbert had seven points, seven rebounds, a steal, an assist and two blocked shots. Alana Trail had five points, a rebound, and four assists; Tylissa Henderson scored two points, had two rebounds, four assists, a steal and two MORE blocked shots; and Brooklyn King had two points and five rebounds. Camryn Beck didn’t score, but had five rebounds, as well.
The Lady Rangers hit 43 percent of their shots from the floor.
Up next for KC: the start of the Region XIV Conference schedule.
They’re off the bulk of this week, but open the conference slate on the road in Brenham, against Blinn College on Saturday at 2 p.m. KC’s conference home opener is next Wednesday, Jan. 15, against Trinity Valley.
By the way, so far this season, the Lady Rangers are 6-0 at home, at Masters Gymnasium.
Here at ETBlitz.com, we celebrate excellence, and KC achieved that excellence in the last week. So we congratulate coach Williams and her Lady Rangers (11-4 overall) for being named the Goudarzi & Young / ETBlitz Team of the Week for the week of Dec. 30 through Jan. 5!
There’s another team that celebrates and achieves excellence each and every day, and that’s the team at Goudarzi & Young.
