SABINE’S McNATT, TROUP’S JORDAN | Whataburger / ETB Players of the week; McNatt’s fourth!

In this incredible photo by QUASI-FOTO, courtesy of the SABINE CARDINALS ATHLETICS Facebook page, Sabine’s Hudson McNatt in action. McNatt collected his fourth Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Player of the Week award Thursday for two games he played in last week. Also honored: Troup’s Qhenja Jordan (below).

EDITOR’S NOTE: Our awards go back to normal next week: the Goudarzi & Young, LLP / ETBlitz.com Team of the Week will be on the website Monday, and the Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Players of the Week will be up on Tuesday, as both were for the bulk of the school year.

Basketball season is here, for most everybody – it’s even here for the Kilgore High School Bulldogs, whose football team is playing in the state semifinals Friday night.

And ETBlitz.com will soon have more basketball than you can shake a stick at.

In fact, we’ve got some right here, right now, because Sabine’s Hudson McNatt and Troup’s Qhenja Jordan are the Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Players of the Week for the week of Dec. 2 through Dec. 7.

Jordan and the Troup Lady Tigers, coached by Dave Minnix, are off to a fast start. They’re still in the first month of the season and they’ve already secured a double-digit win total.

Jordan, a junior, has been a big part of the Lady Tigers’ success so far this year.

Last week in the Slocum Tournament, Troup dealt Slocum a 42-30 defeat. It was the first of three good performances by Jordan. She had 27 of Troup’s 42 points in the game.

Week for the week of Dec. 2-7! Pictured with Qhenja is Mitch Lucas of ETBlitz.com.

Jordan went on to score eight in a 51-22 blowout of Gary, and finished the week with 10 points in the Lady Tigers’ tight 40-38 win over Garrison.

Troup will host another ETBlitz.com-area team, Sabine, on Friday night in a 6 p.m. start – that’s a District 16-3A game.

Other schools in 16-3A are Arp, Gladewater, West Rusk, Tatum, and White Oak – that entire district is in the ETBlitz coverage area.

For her performance in the three games last week, Qhenja Jordan won her very first Whataburger / ETB girls Player of the Week! Congratulations, Qhenja!

And as for our boys’ winner… he’s a Whataburger / ETB regular.

We began presenting the award, sponsored by the World’s Greatest Fast-Food Restaurant, back in January this year. Sabine’s Hudson McNatt is a three-time winner.

The only two other athletes in the area to win the honor at least three times are White Oak’s Addison McClanahan (she did it in two different sports: volleyball and softball), and Braydon Nelson, now an offensive lineman at the University of North Texas – Braydon, a double-medalist at the UIL State Track & Field meet, was a multi-time winner.

This time, Sabine was playing in Brownsboro’s Great East Texas Shootout. And on Thursday, McNatt shot the lights out – in the same day.

In two games on Thursday, McNatt stood out. He led the team with 15 points in a 45-42 win over Mineola, and then later that day, he dropped 22 in a 60-37 blowout of Elysian Fields.

So, basketball season is just really getting started, but congratulations to Hudson McNatt on another couple of great outings, and for his FOURTH Whataburger / ETBlitz.com boys Player of the Week award!

Here are the athletes who have won it so far in the 2024-25 school year:

Congratulations, as well, to Sabine’s Hunter McNatt for winning the Whataburger / ETBlitz.com boys Player of the week for Dec. 2-7. It’s McNatt’s fourth Whataburger / ETB player of the week award since the award was established in January.
