Kilgore High School’s boys soccer team won the Palestine Tournament this past weekend, going 4-0 in the event – Chris Martinez and the Bulldogs’ defense only allowed two goals.

Kilgore beat Graham, 6-0, on day one on Thursday at Wildcat Stadium, then beat Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy (from Dallas), 3-2 on Friday. They won twice on Saturday, a pair of shutouts: 3-0 over Mabank and 5-0 over Mexia.

Coach Hector Peralez, himself a former Bulldog and now the head coach following the retirement of Tom Wait, has his team with a 7-0-2 record. The ‘Dogs are off on Tuesday, and then open District 15-4A play at home, at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium, next Friday, Jan. 19 against Center, a 5 p.m. junior varsity start – varsity will follow.

In Forney, Kilgore’s Lady Bulldogs had their Forney Tournament appearance cut short by a game due to the cold weather, but still went 3-0-1 in the event. Their final game: a scoreless tie in regulation against Whitehouse that the Lady Bulldogs eventually won on penalty kicks, 7-6.

KHS keeper Esperanza Garcia knocked down the final ball from Whitehouse for the game-winning save.

Of note: Kilgore was the lone Class 4A team in the tournament; the rest were either 5A or 6A programs.

Coach Todd BonDurant’s Lady Bulldogs are also off Tuesday and also open district play on Friday, but at Center, at 5 p.m. with JV first.

Sabine’s boys won three games competing in the Tatum Showcase, beating Atlanta, 6-0, Pittsburg, 3-1, and Van, 4-1, on Saturday.

The Cardinals are 8-0-1 on the season and have an open date Tuesday before opening District 15-4A play right back at Tatum, starting with JV at 5 p.m.

Sabine’s Lady Cardinals lost a trio of games in the Bullard tournament, to Nacogdoches, to Bullard and to Brownsboro – that last one, a 5-1 loss – and are hoping to change their fortunes in their District 15-4A schedule. They’ll host Tatum Friday, beginning at 5 with the JV game at James Bamberg Stadium.

Tatum’s Lady Eagles lost a pair of games in the Marshall Tournament over the weekend, falling to the host team, 3-0, and then losing to New Summerfield, 5-1, on Saturday.

The Lady Eagles also are off Tuesday, then play at Sabine, as mentioned, on Friday.

Tatum’s Eagles did well in their own tournament – after the first game. They lost game one of the event, 7-0, to Van, but then bounced back for a couple of wins: 2-0 over Mount Vernon and 3-0 over Liberty-Eylau.

The Eagles have Tuesday off, like apparently everyone else, and then host Sabine’s boys on Friday.

The Henderson Lions competed in the Longview Tournament this past week, losing the opener, 3-2, to Whitehouse on Thursday and then dropping a 5-1 decision to Jacksonville on Friday. Henderson also lost to Pine Tree on Saturday.

The Lions are off on Tuesday, then play a non-district home game against Longview on Friday, a 5 p.m. JV start.

Like Sabine’s girls, Henderson’s Lady Lions were also in the Bullard Tournament. They tied, 1-all, with Palestine on Thursday, then lost a 1-0 decision to Lindale on Friday.

We don’t have a report from their first game on Saturday, but in the second, they outlasted Brownsboro, 2-1.

The Lady Lions are off this entire next week, then host Spring Hill to open their own district schedule (same district as Kilgore and Sabine, 15-4A) on Monday, Jan. 22, a varsity-only date.

Gladewater’s boys and girls teams were both off this weekend – the Bears will host Atlanta on Friday, and the Lady Bears will play at Carlisle on Monday, Jan. 22.
