These days, the Overton High School football team doesn’t lose much.

Sadly for the Mustangs and their fans, Friday night in Lovelady was one of those days.

For the first time since the season opener, Overton lost a game, snapping a five-game winning streak with a 41-21 setback at Lovelady on Friday night.

The loss leaves the Mustangs with a 5-2 overall record, and sitting at 2-1 in District 11-2A, Division II, behind only Lovelady, with three games left in the regular season.

Overton will regroup and take next Friday, Oct. 18, off, and be back in action at home at Coach Chester Roy Stadium on Oct 25 against Alto. Their remaining games have them visiting Mount Enterprise on Nov. 1, and then at home against Cushing to finish out the regular season on Nov. 8.

For the first time all season, Mustangs quarterback Bryce Still didn’t have a touchdown pass Friday night against Lovelady. Still, the former Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Player of the Week and a former Dave Campbell’s Texas Football / Panini America 2A QB of the Week Award-winner, went 26-of-41 for 250 yards and an interception, although the pick was on the first drive. He did run for 105 yards and a score, however.

Teammate Justin Weir, just a sophomore, ran for 60 yards, but scored twice.

Jayden Edwards, Overton’s phenomenal receiver, didn’t play in the game, and Bryson Bobbit led the Mustangs with eight catches for 92 yards. Rylan Holleman had five for 52. Weir had four for 23; Ivan Ransom had four for 5; Jacob Osburn had three for 53; and Brody Brown and Gabriel Miller each had one – Brown for 13 yards and Miller for 11.

Weir also led the defensive effort with 15 tackles, and Kash Holleman and Brown each had a tackle for a loss.
