LC’S OFF, BUT DE’MARION BROWN AIN’T! | Former Lion rolling up yards, looking good at college in Minnesota

Former Leverett’s Chapel running back De’Marion Brown is now a freshman at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, and some things don’t change: he’s still running all over opposing defenses, and was recently named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for a 228-yard, three-TD performance. Coach Keith Hughes and his Leverett’s Chapel Lions are off this week, getting ready for the grind that will be the District 10-1A, Division I six-man schedule that starts with a bang next Friday night against Union Hill.

But one former Lion – LC fans know the name well – is still wearing his hardhat and carrying his tools.

Because he’s workin’ hard.

Former LC standout De’Marion Brown ran hard for the Lions all over the competition for four years, and now he’s running in Minnesota for Gustavus Adolphus College, a college in St. Peter, Minnesota, whose sports compete at the NCAA Division III level. The Golden Gusties are members of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).

BROWN

Recently, in the conference opener, Brown helped Gustavus beat Augsburg, 28-0, in the conference opener. It was Gustavus’s first shutout win since 2019, and Brown finished with 114 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries.

The week before that, though, Brown, a freshman, put himself on the map with a crazy 228-yard, three-score performance against UW-Stephens Point in a 31-10 win for his team. His 228 yards rushing was the eighth-most in a single game in school history.

In fact, it got him named to the D3football.com Team of the Week. His 228 yards were the most by a Gustavus running back since Jeffrey Dubose set the single game record of 264 yards against Carleton in 2013.

On the season right now, Brown has 342 yards and six scores, and averages 7.2 yards a carry.

Leverett’s Chapel ISD Superintendent Matt Everett was also Brown’s former coach for the Lions.

“We are incredibly proud to see one of our own excelling both athletically and academically at the collegiate level,” Everett said this week. “De’Marion’s hard work and dedication are shining examples of the potential our students have to succeed; I’m sure his former teammates, coaches, and friends at Leverett’s Chapel would be thrilled to hear about his continued success.”
