VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP | Tatum, White Oak, Henderson pick up important wins
It’s now 10 straight wins for the Tatum High School Lady Eagles volleyball team, four of them in the District 16-3A schedule, as Tatum won again at home last night, this time over Sabine, 25-12, 25-13, 25-13.
Coach Leven Barker’s team is also undefeated at home this season.
Kaysen Foster and Kamdyn Scott each had 11 kills. Scott had nine digs; Foster had six and six aces. Taydem Barker had 27 assists, three digs, three kills and three aces. Aundrea Bradley had eight kills. Taylor Jacobs had two, to go with two digs and four aces. Karly Stroud had 10 digs and two assists, and Kyndal Greenwood had five digs and three assists.
For Sabine, Emily McBride had six kills. Keeley McCann had 16 assists and seven digs. Sarah Roberts had seven kills and two digs. Kaityln Sanchez had three kills. Caitlyn Stewart had 10 digs. Addy Carney had six, Ella Phillips had five, and Camryn Tatum had two.
Tatum (30-5 overall, 4-0 in 16-3A), the ETBlitz.com Team of the Week and ranked third in the state in the Texas Girls Coaches Association poll, is off on Friday, visits Troup on Tuesday, beginning with junior varsity 2 at 4:30, and hosts Arp next Friday, Oct. 1, a varsity-only night at 4:30 p.m.
Sabine (1-3 in district play) plays at Gladewater on Friday, varsity at 4:30; hosts West Rusk on Tuesday; and then has an open date on Friday, Oct. 4.
White Oak tops Troup: Let’s stay in 16-3A, where every single team in the district is in the ETBlitz.com coverage area.
Over in White Oak, the Lady ‘Necks were able to sweep Troup on Tuesday night, 25-19, 25-12, 25-17.
Addison McClanahan had nine kills, Andee Bridges had eight, and London Bodovsky, three in the win for White Oak, which had taken Tatum to five sets last Friday. White Oak also got 22 assists from Alli Sims in the win.
White Oak (2-1 in 16-3A) will play at West Rusk on Friday – the Lady Raiders are also state-ranked, No. 20 in the TGCA state poll, and that’s a 4:30 start, varsity-only on Friday. White Oak will host Arp on Tuesday night, beginning with JV 2 at 4:30, and then will also be home next Friday, varsity-only, against Gladewater at 4:30.
Troup (2-2 in district) hosts Arp on Friday, a 4:30 varsity-only night; hosts Tatum on Tuesday, starting with JV2 at 4:30; and then visits West Rusk on Friday, Oct. 4, at 4:30, another varsity-only night.
Grace Community upsets West Rusk: The Lady Raiders stepped out of 16-3A and took a trip to Tyler to face Grace Community on Tuesday, and won the first set, 19-25, but ultimately came up short, losing the last three, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23.
We don’t have numbers available for the game; we do know West Rusk has won six of their last eight, and is 2-1 in 16-3A, the one loss being to Tatum last Tuesday, Sept. 17.
West Rusk hosts White Oak Friday at 4:30, and then visits Sabine on Tuesday.
Gilmer loses at home to Spring Hill: And there’s no shame in that. Spring Hill is, after all, ranked sixth in the latest state poll.
But the Lady Buckeyes didn’t get swept. They did win the second set, 26-24. The official score: 18-25, 26-24, 20-25, 18-25.
Gilmer (14-13 overall, 2-2 in District 16-4A), plays at Kilgore on Friday, varsity first at 4:30; hosts Carthage on Tuesday, beginning with junior varsity play at 4:30; and then plays at Chapel Hill next Friday, Oct. 4, again with varsity at 4:30.
In the matchup against Spring Hill, Lacey Wilson had 14 kills, and Alexis Kemp had nine. Jayna Rucker and Livi Brown each had three, and Macy Stocks had two; Alex Werbeck had one.
Wilson had three aces; Werbeck and Rucker each had two. Rucker scored 11 points; Wilson scored five. Wilson had four blocks; Stocks had two, and Brown one.
Kemp and Brie Jones led the team with 18 digs each; Lexi Hancock each had nine digs. Rucker had eight. Werbeck had six, to go with 25 assists.
Henderson sweeps Pine Tree: Also in 16-4A play, another team undefeated in district is the Henderson Lady Lions, ranked 23rd in the state in 4A.
Coach Keasa Bonds’ Henderson squad took down the Lady Pirates in a sweep, 25-14, 25-12, 25-20 on Tuesday night.
Addi Standley had 13 kills and two digs. Kate Charlo had 14 kills and two aces. Mary Ella Hampton had 19 assists, four kills and five digs. Preslie Costlow had three kills. Nolyn Norris had nine digs, two aces and two assists. Hannah Nelson had five aces, four assists and two digs. Chloe Ellis had five digs. Tara McNew had four, and two aces, and Brinklee Bowman had two assists.
Henderson (19-6, 4-0 in 16-4A), winners of six straight, is set to play at Carthage on Friday, varsity at 4:30 p.m., and will host Cumberland Academy on Tuesday.
