STATE POLLS HAVE SURPRISES | Kilgore STAYS fifth; Carthage STAYS No. 1!; Daingerfield falls only one spot

Well, a surprise with the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football rankings.

Several of them, actually.

The new rankings came out Monday, and Kilgore did not move up in the DCTF Class 4A Division I rankings, in spite of beating Carthage, the No. 1 team in Class 4A, Division II, at Carthage’s own stadium last week.

Maybe an even-bigger surprise: Carthage didn’t fall.

You read that right: Carthage, which had five turnovers against Kilgore and lost the season opener at their own stadium, 20-15, is still the No. 1 team in 4A-DII in the Dave Campbell’s state poll.

Hey, we’re just the messenger here, folks.

More news from the rankings:

  • Daingerfield, which was No. 2 in the 3A-DII rankings last week and really, honestly looked dreadful in their loss to Gladewater last Thursday, only fell one spot, down to No. 3, in this week’s rankings.
  • Gilmer slipped from No. 2 in the 4A-DII rankings to No. 5 after its season-opening home loss (22-15) to Pine Tree last week.
  • Aledo lost its opener, 35-30, to Denton Guyer, and dropped from No. 1 in 5A-DI to No. 3; Denton Ryan moved up to No. 1 in the 5A-DI poll, and Highland Park (shock of all shocks) moved up to No. 2.

Again, an explanation in why ETBlitz recognizes the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football polls and doesn’t have one of its own:

We don’t believe that we’re in the business of making sports news; we’re in the business of covering those who do.

It’s our place to cover, as best we can, the schools in our coverage area: Kilgore, Henderson, Sabine, Gladewater, White Oak, Gilmer, Tatum, West Rusk, Arp, Troup, Overton, and Leverett’s Chapel.

The DCTF poll comes out each week just after noon on Mondays.

The ETBlitz coverage area has no 6A or 5A programs, but we have those polls here because we think you might be interested in them.

There are three 4A programs in our area: Kilgore and Henderson, both in the larger 4A-DI, and Gilmer, in 4A-DII.

We have several 3A programs: Sabine, Gladewater, Tatum and White Oak, all in 3A-DI, and Arp, Troup and West Rusk, all in 3A-DII.

Overton competes in 2A-DII, and Leverett’s Chapel is in six-man football (1A).

Here are this week’s 6A rankings.
