The University Interscholastic League is hosting golf regionals across the state this week, and golfers from both Sabine High School and Overton High School are competing in them.

Sabine’s Garridon Edwards is competing today at Oak Hurst Golf Club in Bullard, where the girls golf team will compete on Wednesday and Thursday in the UIL Region II meet.

Edwards will throw his name in the hat to compete for a spot in the UIL Boys 3A State Tournament, at Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin on April 29-30.

Sabine’s girls go into regionals as the District 16-3A champions, a district that included Gladewater, White Oak, Arp, West Rusk, Tatum, and Troup. Members of the team are Allyssa Crutcher, Emily McBride, Lillian Odle, Avery Rutland, and Dakota Wick.

Sabine golf is coached by Phillip Anderson.

Should the Lady Cardinals qualify for the UIL 3A Girls State Golf Tournament, that would be at ShadowGlen Golf Club in Manor on May 6-7.

Overton High School’s boys golf team is competing today and Tuesday at Cherokee Ranch Golf Club in Jacksonville at the UIL Region III Golf Championship for a shot at going to the UIL Class 2A State Tournament.

That’s at Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin on April 29-30.

The Mustangs, led by medalist Brody Brown, are also Kason Hawkins, Rylan Holleman, Landon Hill, and Bryce Still. Still was third at district, Holleman fourth, and Hill fifth, qualifying as an individual. Overton’s boys went into regionals as the district champions.

The Lady Mustangs won the district championship, as well. They compete at Cherokee Ranch on Wednesday and Thursday, and success there means a trip to the UIL Girls State Tournament at Lions Municipal Golf Course on May 6-7.

Members of the Lady Mustangs are Bostyn Brown, Ashby Croswell, Siann Levoy, and Anna Perkins. At district, Lavoy and Perkins tied for second, Brown was fourth, and Croswell, fifth.
