It’s game day, people.

Kilgore High School’s soccer Bulldogs, one of the most dominant teams in the state of Texas in the last 14 years, is back in action Saturday morning in the University Interscholastic League Class 4A Region II Tournament – and they’re playing for a berth in the state soccer tournament next week.

At 11 a.m. Saturday morning, the ‘Dogs will play Panther Creek, a Frisco-area team, in the regional finals at Tyler’s CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium, and the winner will represent Region II in the state tournament that begins next Wednesday, April 10, for the 4A teams, with the state semifinals.

The championship game is set for next Friday, April 12.

ETBlitz.com will have a story after the game.

Kilgore (24-2-2) earned its spot in the regional final with a 2-0 win Friday over Wilmer-Hutchins. The Bulldogs have knocked off two of the state’s great teams just this week, beating No. 1-ranked Jacksonville, 1-0, on Tuesday at Henderson ISD Lions Stadium, and then W-H.

If they can do it again – and beat Panther Creek on Saturday – then Kilgore returns to the state tournament for the first time since 2017, when the Bulldogs claimed the 4A state championship.

Also, if the Bulldogs win today, the senior class, which has been so incredible, will have helped KHS win 100 games, an unbelievable feat.

Panther Creek, though, won’t be chopped liver. They’ve also knocked off two of this year’s toughest programs in Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy, and on Friday, Palestine, beating the Wildcats, 2-1, in overtime.
