Contrary to popular belief, Mount Enterprise running back Kaegan Ash isn’t running into history.

He’s already there.

And maybe more importantly than that – the Wildcats got one step closer to playing for a state championship.

Ash and his Wildcats teammates went to Palestine ISD’s Wildcat Stadium, fittingly enough, and picked up a fourth-round win over Bremond, 64-58, in the UIL Class 2A, Division II playoffs on Friday night.

Ash, a Texas Tech commit, had just another normal day at the office. Well, normal for HIM: Ash finished with 605 yards and scored eight touchdowns.

Ash, a senior, ran for 503 yards and scored six rushing touchdowns, and also had 102 yards’ worth of receptions and two receiving TDs.

He broke the 72-year-old record of former Sugarland standout Ken Hall of 4,045 yards, set in 1953. The new mark: 4,324 yards.

According to maxpreps.com, Ash set the record with less than a minute left in the first half on a fourth-and-13 play, running for 35 yards on the play and actually scoring.

And oh, by the way: Ash, listed at 6-foot, 210 pounds, has 77 touchdowns this season. In Friday night’s win over Bremond, he broke the NATIONAL RECORD for single-season touchdowns (72, set by Tulare Union’s Kazmeir Allen in 2017).

The Wildcats move on to the state 2A, DII semifinals next week, and they’ll face Shiner at a time and a place to be determined. ETBlitz.com will pick up Mount Enterprise for the remainder of this season and cover Ash and his teammates on their title run. The Wildcats are 14-0 this season.
