The Magnificent Seven

Clearly, y’all are forgiving people. My headline had a typo in it for the first several hours — it said “second-round.” I meant third-round. Sorry, guys.

Now…

Did y’all ever see “The Magnificent Seven”?

No, I’m not talking about the remake with Denzel, as much as I love Denzel – loved him in “Remember the Titans.” One of my top-10 favorite movies ever. Denzel Washington is one of the greatest actors in our history.

I’m talking about “The Magnificent Seven,” the original, a Western with another handful of our greatest actors, particularly Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen. They lead a group of – well, seven gunfighters, mercenaries paid by these villagers to protect their town from this band of thugs who come in once or twice a month and terrorize the town and take everything they own.

The seven realize quickly that – tough as they are – they actually need the villagers’ help to beat the thugs, and villagers realize that they had the strength inside to fight the thugs all along. It’s a pretty good story.

All that being said…

Guess how many teams from our coverage area that are left in the UIL high school football playoffs?

Seven, bingo.

And here’s the third-round playoff information, as much as we have, for all seven. We’ll have updates along the way this week. This week, by the way, being Thanksgiving and school out, is always the toughest BECAUSE school is out. There’s a lot of things lost in translation, if you will, but hopefully, everything will get done and covered as needed.

Hey, bye-bye, penny

Did you hear that the penny will no longer be made by the U.S. Mint?

They’re apparently not taking it out of circulation – I guess that would be too difficult. “Hey, madam, give us all your pennies.”

They’re not doing that, but they aren’t making any more.

You know what that means.

The penny is about to be worth more.

That’s right.

Now people will be hoarding pennies like they’re worth something because they just might BE.

Classic ‘80s SUNDAY

Haven’t done this in a while. And we normally do it on Saturday.

But let’s go out with a bang today.
