WAKE UP! ON ETBLITZ | Happy birthday, America; The Countdown on our home page; video from around the country

EDITOR’S NOTE: Cozy Coffee Station is your place to go for hundreds of choices of coffee, tea, soda – they even have sandwiches and baked goods, and here’s the bad part: You’re gonna have to wait until tomorrow, because both the Kilgore and Gilmer locations are closed. Just think how good they’ll be when you get there tomorrow, to either Kilgore (at 110 Midtown Plaza) or Gilmer (at 755 Highway 271 North)! Their website: Home | Cozy Coffee Station.

What’s going on?
A lot, actually.
Tech issues forced us to run our Wake Up! feature late last night, and then I boneheadedly put Tatum in the district with West Rusk. I’m the first one to admit when I screw up, and guys, that won’t be the last time. My apologies.
But we do have a lot happening, even in the dead of the summer.
Go to our home page, and you’ll see a clock counting down to August 4. That’s my little addition to the site today. It’s counting down to the first day of football practice.
Today: right around 1:30, 1:45, the Whataburger Personality Profile is going to hit. It’s going to be on this site. You’re not gonna BELIEVE who it is. I have refused to give anything away, because I wanted you guys to participate in this. All I’ve said is that it is an impact player, a big factor, in sports in East Texas, in our coverage area. That’s your hint. Come back around 1:30 and check it out, and take part.
Here at ETBlitz.com, we cover 12 high schools and Kilgore College, and really, the conference that KC is in, the Southwest Junior College Football Conference and Region XIV.
We’ve announced this several times, but we’re adding three high schools to our coverage area, beginning with the school year that’s about to start. And we’re going to announce those schools next Friday, July 11, here on the site and on our socials.
One more thing: our questionnaire is being e-mailed now to all our football head coaches in our area. It’s a cool thing, not too long, very basic, allowing them to list names, notable players, positions where they believe they’re the strongest, their career record, names of assistant coaches and more. We use these to help us write our previews.
So if you’re a head coach and you get a questionnaire, please, guys, e-mail it back. I tell you what: e-mail it back, or I’m gonna send Joe Hale hunting for you.
That oughta do it. 😊
Happy Fourth
Don’t know how you guys are spending the Fourth of July. This time back in 1987, I spent it in Washington, D.C., celebrating the 200th anniversary of the adoption of the U.S. Constitution. Our band was one of many entrants in a parade on the Fourth, and then we got to enjoy the Smithsonian, check out Arlington National Cemetery, the White House, the capitol, both the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, the Washington Monument and all sorts of things.
I think one of the most memorable stops of the trip, though, was our stop at Ford Theatre and the eerie feeling we had, standing where Booth stood after shooting Lincoln, and then across the way, where we saw where he passed.
Also went to the outside of the Pentagon, the J. Edgar Hoover Building (FBI) and a ton of other things. I guess we did the Chevy Chase stop at the Lincoln Memorial, though. We got to the Lincoln Memorial at 2 a.m. Everybody was exhausted. We walked to the top, saw the memorial and literally a minute later – not kidding – we were back on the bus. It was kind of like this…
Surprise, surprise
Speaking of the Fourth – if you know me, you know I wear my heart on my sleeve about this country – I wanted to do something special today for you guys, and this is what I found.
It’s a live webcam, operated by Fox10, a TV station in Phoenix, Arizona, but it’s streaming live video from cities all across the U.S. I thought about putting on a link to streaming live at Niagra Falls, the Grand Canyon, the Statue of Liberty and even the National Mall in Washington. But this is where I settled. The view changes often, but the city changes every 30 seconds.
And here are the cities: Albany, Atlanta, Atlantic City, Austin, Buffalo, Champaign, Chattanooga, Chicago, Clearwater, Cleveland, Coeur d’Alene, Dallas, Denver, Eugene, Flint, Ft. Worth, Grand Rapids, Green Bay, Gulfport, Irving, Jacksonville, Jefferson City, Knoxville, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Louisville, Meridian, Middletown, Milwaukee, Mt. Pleasant, Myrtle Beach, Nashville, New Bedford, New Orleans, New York City, Niagara Falls, Oakland, Ocean City, Orlando, Ozark, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Antonio, Seattle, Sequim, Sioux City, Spokane, St. Louis, St. Paul, Tampa, Topsail Beach, and Washington D.C.
Yall enjoy it. Hope everyone has a happy, safe Fourth of July, no matter your plans, and come back this afternoon to find out who the Whataburger Personality Profile is!
