WAKE UP (and EAT LUNCH)! ON ETBLITZ | When we’ll announce our new schools; Whataburger Personality Profile starts Friday

WAKE UP! today is WAKE UP! and HAVE LUNCH! We knew we’d be late getting today’s edition online, and we’re likely hungry by now. Join us and drop by one of the East Texas locations of Cozy Coffee Station, our advertising partner each day for Wake Up!, and get not only something great to drink, but one of their menu items, too? Check them out here: Cozy Coffee Station, then go to either the Kilgore location at 110 Midtown Plaza, or to their Gilmer store at 755 Highway 271 North. Tell Oscar and Ashley the ETBlitz.com crew sent you and get something good today!

Henderson’s Jesstin “Meaty” Starling has room to run in this photo from last season by Dennis Jacobs. What three schools are coming to the ETBlitz.com coverage area? We’ll find out Friday, July 11.

Here’s what you came for

Sort of.

We’ll do this in “Jeopardy!” format.

The answer is Friday, July 11.

The question?

Well, who are the three programs that are coming to our site this coming school year?

That’s the day we’ll do the big reveal, our schools that we’ll be adding to the ETBlitz.comcoverage area. And we had planned to add two.

Plans change.

We’ve instead decided to add three.

We’ve carefully considered the athletic programs at these three schools, and after a LOT of consideration, decided that NONE of them can be left off. We want to add all three to the ETB coverage area.

And while we wanted to go ahead and announce it this week, it’s the week of the Fourth of July. There are folks traveling. It’s the summer’s biggest holiday.

We want everyone’s undivided attention, so to speak.

Then, I thought, what about Monday (July 7), before finally just deciding on next Friday, July 11.

I mean, “Friday night lights,” right?

Friday, July 11, it is.

So, to be clear: ALL of the sports at these three schools will be added to what ETBlitz.com is already covering.

Right now, we have 12 high schools in our area, in addition to Kilgore College, and the three new schools will take us to 15 overall.

Our current 12 are:

Arp (3A), Gilmer (4A), Gladewater (3A), Henderson (4A), Kilgore (4A), Leverett’s Chapel (1A/2A), Overton (2A), Sabine (3A), Tatum (3A), Troup (3A), West Rusk (3A), and White Oak (3A).

And the three we’re adding?

Well, they’re what I like to call “home run hitters.” They’re big money ball-players.

In other words, next Friday, there will be some excitement. When football and volleyball start, there will be MAJOR excitement. There would have been anyway, with the 12 schools already in the mix. Injecting these three will be like shaking up nitroglycerin (not that I’m advocating that!).

Here’s another one.

The answer: THIS Friday, July 4.

The question: When will this summer’s very first Whataburger / ETBlitz Personality Profile be available on ETBlitz.com?

I’m not gonna tell you who it is. You’ll have to wait until Friday to see. But it’ll be someone that’s very influential in our area, someone from one of those schools, someone from Kilgore College, or someone who has a large role in athletics in East Texas. They’ll be my guest for a sit-down interview, and it’ll be on ETBlitz.com this Friday, as well as have coverage on our other social media, on Facebook and on Instagram.

I’m fired up! And I know you guys will enjoy it.

Rangers report

The Texas Rangers dropped a decision to Baltimore, 10-6, in 11 innings Monday night, and they’re back at home again against the Orioles tonight, another 7:05 p.m.start at Globe Life. Jacob deGrom will throw for Texas, and Brandon Young for the O’s.

The Rangers have dropped two straight and are 5-5 in their last 10 games. Here’s the problem: the Houston Astros lead the American League West and are 7-3 in their last 10. Texas has to be better.

After tonight, they’ll have one more home game against Baltimore (tomorrow night at 7:05), take Thursday off, and then celebrate the Fourth of July Friday at 5:40 p.m. our time at San Diego, against the Padres, the first of a three-game series before they head to L.A. to start another at the Angels on Monday.

Whew. It never stops.

  1. Just FYI for a possible story at some point … not sure of the exact number but Meaty Starling from Henderson is about 1300 yards from local and East Texas legend Joe Wiley’s school career rushing record going into the season.
