3A AREA RUNNERS HEADED TO REGIONALS! | Tatum wins boys, girls district races; Sabine, West Rusk, White Oak, G’water, Arp and Troup all represented

The District 16-3A Cross-Country meet was contested last week at Lear Park, hosted by Gladewater, and for the first time in well over a decade, Sabine High School’s boys won’t head to regionals as district champions.

There’s the news from the meet, that Tatum will head to regionals on Tuesday at Grand Prairie’s Lynn Creek Park as champions of both the varsity boys and varsity girls from 16-3A.

Sabine’s boys are going to regionals as a team, after finishing third overall at district.

The top three teams in each category move on to regionals, and of course, the individual qualifiers.

In varsity boys, Tatum finished with 24 points, followed by White Oak (42), Sabine (65), West Rusk (103) and Troup (135), a cross-country district made up entirely of programs in the ETBlitz.com coverage area.

In the varsity girls team race, it was Tatum topping out with 37, followed by West Rusk, 46; Troup, 71; Sabine, 75; and Arp, 125.

The only two teams in the junior varsity girls category were West Rusk (21) and Tatum (36), and in JV boys, Sabine did win, with 20 points, followed by White Oak, 43; West Rusk, 84; and Tatum, 85.

Tatum’s Eagles had four of the top five finishers in the boys’ 5K run. Victor Cantellano and Gabriel Cantellano finished 1-2, with Victor clocking in at 16 minutes, 56 seconds, and Gabriel at 17:30.

White Oak’s Niko Soto was third overall (17:51), followed by Tatum’s Faustino Sandoval (18:24) and Alexis Ventura (18:26).

In girls results, in the two-mile race, it was actually West Rusk’s Adelaide Murphy who broke the tape, finishing first in the time of 12 minutes, 47 seconds. Tatum’s Akeira Oden was second (13:07), and Troup’s Kambry Nelson, third, in 13:52. Sadie Loftis of Sabine was fourth (14:04) and Tatum’s Patience Price, fifth (14:20).

Individual girls results for Tatum for the meet: Oden, 13:07; Price, 14:20; Karlee Keiss, 14:43; Latisha Medford, 15:15; Baylee Pruitt, 16:42; Melissa Olascoaga, 17:45; and Deyanay Jaraniallo, 16:38.

For West Rusk, individual finishers: Murphy, 12:47; Andrea Martinez, 15:33; Kristy Grimaldo, 15:36; Kahlen Mason, 15:42; Samantha Williams, 16:20; Madison Stults, 17:23; and Jada Maroney, 17:33.

Individual results for girls third-place team Troup: Nelson, 13:52; Camdyn Kiener, 15:28; Jenna Murry, 16:15; Cassie Murry, 17:29; and Natalie Howell, 18:07.

Girls results for Sabine: Loftis, 14:04; Autumn Mosley, 15:42; Triniti Williams, 16:28; Emma Bynog, 16:52; Aubrey Powers, 18:15; Abby Mosley, 18:38; and Jocelyn Maldonado, 19:50.

For Arp: Kennedy Richter, 16:34; Presley Johnson, 17:15; Lilly Haskins, 18:45; Skylar Wallace, 19:52; and Alyssa Talamantes, 20:47.

And finally, for Gladewater: Suzy Perez, 15:57; Heidi Collins, 15:57; Kendal Yount, 17:44; and Brooklyn Yount, 18:59.
