Kilgore High School’s boys basketball Bulldogs made the playoffs again this season; the Lady Bulldogs were beset by injuries and fell short.

But both had players that were honored as a part of the District 17-4A boys and girls All-District Teams, which are, of course, chosen exclusively by the coaches.

Coach Jeff Coleman’s Bulldogs got one superlative award-winner, and that was Mr. Steal himself, Jayden Sanders, who was named the defensive most valuable player of the year.

Senior Braydon Nelson was named first-team all-district; Eric Armstrong and Javon Towns were both named second-team all-district; and Mikel Dennis and Dre Sanders were named honorable mention on a talented 17-4A All-District team that was hard to crack the lineup.

Maybe most importantly, academic all-district honors for the Bulldogs went to (in alphabetical order) Kayson Brooks, Braydon Nelson, Dre Sanders and to Jayden Sanders.

For coach Marissa Coop’s Lady Bulldogs, it was tough sledding all season in a physical girls district.

But Auniyeuh Matlock, Kassidy Oliver and Maurine Witt were all named second-team all-district by the district’s coaches, and Phenix Rivers was an honorable mention choice.

Lady Bulldogs who earned academic all-district achievement were (again, in alphabetical order) Trinazai Frierson, Makaylah Jackson, Auniyeuh Matlock, Kassidy Oliver, Maggie Quine, Molly Quine, Phenix Rivers, Hallie Smires, and Brittany Yzaguirre.
