WAKE UP! ON ETBLITZ | Who’s playing who Friday night; Whataburger / ETB player of the week announced later today; Carthage’s DaQuives Beck is a grown man

EDITOR’S NOTE: You know that feeling when you feel like you’ve spent your money wisely? You can have that every single day if you go by and grab drinks or snacks at Cozy Coffee Station (well, ok, not Sunday – they’re closed on Sunday). Ashley and Oscar and their family, and the staff at both East Texas locations of Cozy Coffee Station have the best coffee and tea products around, and they NEVER disappoint. Get by their Kilgore location at 110 Midtown Plaza or their Gilmer store at 755 Highway 271 North and find out for yourself. See the menu at Home | Cozy Coffee Station, and all kinds of things on their socials – Cozy Coffee Station-Kilgore and Cozy Coffee Station-Gilmer on Facebook, and on Instagram, @cozycoffeestation_kilgore and @cozycoffeestation_gilmer.

High school football
There are no Thursday night varsity games this week, but there are a BUNCH of good ones on Friday night. Here’s this week’s schedule of games that feature teams in the ETBlitz.com coverage area. Note that some of these kick off at 7 p.m. instead of 7:30. Also of note: Gilmer and White Oak are both off.
Beckville (2-3) at Big Sandy (0-5), 7 p.m.
Sabine (0-5) at Gladewater (4-1), 7 p.m.
Liberty-Eylau (1-3) at Tatum (2-3), 7 p.m.
Carthage (4-0) vs. San Benito (in Bay City), 7 p.m.
Buffalo (1-3) at Arp (4-1), 7:30 p.m.
Troup (5-0) at Elkhart (1-4), 7:30 p.m.
West Rusk (4-1) at Winona (1-4), 7:30 p.m.
Mabank (2-2) at Pine Tree (2-3), 7:30 p.m.
Kilgore (4-1) at Henderson (4-1), 7:30 p.m.
Overton (2-2) plays at Tenaha (1-4) on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
Also on Saturday, Kilgore College will host Community Christian College at 3 p.m., and that’s the KC Athletics Hall of Fame Game. This is a non-conference game for the Rangers, and in a rare deal, this is the second time this season that they will have faced Community Christian. They opened the season against CCC here back on August 23, a (rather convincing) 80-0 win.
This year’s hall of fame inductees will either be recognized just before the game or at halftime. And we’ll have a story on those either this evening or on Friday here on ETBlitz.com.
By the way, throughout the day today and likely into tomorrow, if we don’t get finished today, we’re once again publishing statistics that we can get our hands on for as many of the high school football teams in our coverage area that we can.
Already posted are Henderson, Beckville and Carthage.
DaQuives Beck
Speaking of Carthage, congratulations to Carthage linebacker DaQuives Beck.
The Texas A&M commit is the most recent winner of the Built Ford Tough Player of the Week award in Class 4A, for his performance last week, a 42-0 blanking of Jasper, at Jasper.
In that road win at Jasper, Beck had a sack, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery for a touchdown, and 11 tackles.
Beck and the Bulldogs, 4-0 and ranked No. 1 in 4A, Division II, play San Benito (0-5) on Friday, but they go all the way to Bay City to do it.
Carthage, the defending state champion in that division of 4A, opens District 8-4A play next Friday with a road trip to Center.
And speaking of players of the week, we’ll announce our own Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Players of the Week later today. And we think you’ll be impressed with what these two young people did last week.
By the way, our ETBlitz Power Picks will be a part of Wake Up!, in this very space, tomorrow morning. And we have lots more that will hit the site later today and tomorrow.
Happy Thursday, guys.
